Roy Nelson Not Sure About What a “Blackzilian” Is
MMAjunkie spoke with The Ultimate Fighter season 16 coach and season 10 winner, Roy Nelson. Nelson now faces Matt Mitrione at The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale on December 15. His originally scheduled opponent, Shane Carwin, was forced to withdraw due to injury.
On not being able to face Shane Carwin at the finale: “It’s basically back to square one. I thought I was going to get to beat the guy up at the end of the season, and it was kind of a letdown…Actually, I figured something like that was going to happen. t’s not the first time he’s pulled out of a fight with me.”
How he expected something like this to happen with Carwin: “I was just kind of getting through the day. I really didn’t care. If he showed up, he showed up. If he didn’t, he didn’t. For somebody that said he wanted to punch me in my face, I guess he really didn’t want to punch me in my face too bad.”
On why Matt Mitrione called matchmaker Joe Silva to request the fight with Nelson: “That’s something that you’d have to ask Matt, but you just have to be careful what you wish for.”
Nelson’s thoughts on Mitrione who was on his team for TUF: “I think I was the only one that actually tried to help him in the house…I think he’s come a long way from there. He’s a Blackzilian now, whatever that is. I’m not sure if it’s like a black millionaire or a black Brazilian or what. I’m still trying to figure out what that is. But he has a better record in the UFC then I do, and if you’re in the UFC, you’re the best in the world.”
What Nelson plans to do to get a rematch with Junior dos Santos: “Right now, I’m just going keep plugging away and keep moving up the ladder. Roy Nelson-Shane Carwin III? I think it might look good on the posters. Maybe I’ll fight (Antonio) ‘Bigfoot’ Silva. Whoever fights ‘Bigfoot’ seems to get a title shot.”
