Shane Carwin Ends His Retirement, To Fight In Rizin Open Weight Tournament

MMA Junkie reports that Shane Carwin is coming out of retirement after five years to compete in an open weight tournament for Rizin Fighting Federation. He will debut in the second round of the World Grand Prix tournament in Saitama, Japan, on December 29. An opponent has not been named.

The opening round was previously held on September 25 in Saitama, with Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic, Valentin Moldavsky, Amir Aliakbari, Jiri Prochazka, Szymon Bzor, and Baruto winning. Filopvic will fight Wanderlei Silva in the second round, who had a first round bye. The quarterfinal fights happen on the 29th with the semifinals and finals happening on the 31st.

Carwin previously hinted at a return on Monday with a photo on Twitter of RIZIN gloves. He later said that he accepted an offer to fight Fedor Emelianenko.
