Stephen Thompson Says Tyron Woodley Is Down For Immediate Rematch

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Stephen Thompson (13-1-1 MMA, 8-1-1 UFC) said that he thinks that welterweight champion Tyron Woodley (16-3-1 MMA, 6-2-1 UFC) is on board for an immediate rematch between the two in the first quarter of 2017. The two fought at UFC 205, which ended with a majority draw. However, Woodley was contacted and said he hasn’t actually spoken with Thompson. Here are highlights:

On a rematch with Woodley: “I know Dana White definitely wants to see that instant rematch, and as of right now. I think Tyron Woodley’s on board with us, as well. We know it’s going to be us. We just don’t have a set date yet. We’re looking at late February, early March. But it’s definitely going to happen.”

On getting heavier for a rematch: “I didn’t get heavy at all, and Tyron felt every bit of 200 pounds. If we ever step out there again, I’m definitely going to be walking around heavier. That’s just something I feel I have to do in order to fight him again.”
