Strikeforce Confirms Marquardt vs. Saffiedine Event is Final Showtime Broadcast

Strikeforce officially announced today that their January 12 event Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine will be their final card to be broadcast on Showtime.

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker stated: “Since 2009, Showtime has been a great partner and we appreciate its support of Strikeforce and our athletes. For our final event, we’ve loaded the card with some outstanding fights. This is going to be a memorable night for the sport of mixed martial arts.”

The event will is set to go down on January 12 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City. The main card will be broadcast on Showtime, with the six preliminary fights shown on Showtime Extreme. The release does not equivocally state that the Strikeforce brand will be completely dissolved following the card.

Strikeforce also announced a new bout for the card which will be 194-pound catchweight bout between UFC middleweight veteran Ed Herman facing former Strikeforce middleweight champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. Souza was originally scheduled to face Lorenz Larkin, but Larkin had to withdraw from the card due to injury.
