Tim Means Settles with USADA Over Positive Drug Test – Six Month Suspension

June 10, 2016 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Tim Means has settled with the UFC’s anti-doping partner over a positive drug test that came from a tainted supplement. The USADA announced today that Means has accepted a six-month suspension in the settlement, which will be retroactive to the provisional suspension he received on February 3rd. The suspension caused Means to be pulled from his scheduled fight with Donald Cerrone at UFC Fight Night 83 on February 21st.

Means tested positive for ostarine, a banned androgen modulator with anabolic properties, in an out-of-competition test. The substance came from a tainted supplement that Means acknowledged using. He faced a two-year suspension but received a lighter sentence due to the extenuating circumstances of the tainted supplement. The settlement is similar to the one that Yoel Romero received after providing that his failed drug test for a growth hormone substitute came from a tainted supplement.
