Tyron Woodley Talks About Facing Jay Hieron at UFC 156

February 2, 2013 | Posted by Jeffrey Harris

MMAjunkie Radio spoke with former Strikeforce fighter Tyron Woodley who makes his UFC debut at UFC 156 against Jay Hieron. Here are some highlights:

Woodley on facing Hieron: “Me and Jay have known each other for a while. We never trained together. I think we always knew that this was going to happen…He was in Strikeforce, and I thought we might bump heads there; now it’s the UFC. But it’s no disrespect. You don’t have to hate somebody to want to win the fight. I think that he has that mindset. I have that mindset, so we’ll get in there and get after each other. After the fight, it will be no hard feelings.”

Woodley on visualizing the fight: “Every time I run or do cardio, I really just visualize the fight – visualize the round, match the five minutes to the five minutes on the treadmill or elliptical. I really play the fight out, and I really start thinking that all the hard work I’ve put in to here, all the training, the work is done. I just have to relax, go out there, be myself, fight hard and do the things that I know that I can do. I never thought I was not going to make it to the UFC. It’s not like, ‘Oh, I finally made it.’ This was an inevitable process.”

Woodley on being in the UFC now: “I’m not really focusing on making it to the UFC; I’m focusing on chopping down this ladder and getting to the top. This is a stepping stone. It’s all business, though. I’m ready to get it on.”
