MMA Junkie reports that UFC on FX 6 had below average ratings for the main card on FX (an average of 972,000 viewers) and the preliminary card on FUEL TV (96,000).
The event took place Friday at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Center in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. It was the UFC’s second trip to Australia this year and second to be shown on FX.
The main card average is down from UFC on FX 5, which brought in 1.1 million viewers. However, the FUEL TV preliminary card doubled the preliminary card for UFX on FX 5, which only averaged 44,000 for the card in Minneapolis.
The main event saw Ross Pearson (14-6 MMA, 6-3 UFC) knock out George Sotiropoulos (14-5 MMA, 7-3 UFC) after coaching the second international version of The Ultimate Fighter, subtitled Smashes. The show also featured Hector Lombard (32-3-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) getting his first UFC win through a first round stoppage over Rousimar Palhares (14-5 MMA, 7-4 UFC). Robert Whittaker (10-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) won the Smashes welterweight prize against Brad Scott (8-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) and Norman Parke (17-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) beat Colin Fletcher (8-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) to win the lightweight tournament.
Before this weekend’s event, the UFC on FX series averaged 1.24 million viewers. The highest-rated card was UFC on FX 2 from Sydney in March, which averaged 1.4 million viewers. It featured the beginning of the flyweight tournament and a welterweight fight between Martin Kampmann and Thiago Alves.
