MMAjunkie recently spoke to UFC fighter Vicente Luque ahead of his upcoming bout with Hector Urbina at UFC Fight Night 95. The fight card is set for later today and will be broadcast live on FS1. Below are some highlights.

Luque on learning from his recent loss: “It helped me adjust some details and see some of the errors I was committing. Once the first fight was out of the way, I was able to better prepare for the next two. I was able to get excellent results then.”

Luque on his objective for the fight: “My objective is always to finish my opponent before the final buzzer. I don’t want the fight to go to the judges. I managed to do that. I feel this is a great time in my career. I want to keep the momentum from my last two victories going. I want to continue evolving, winning and climbing up the UFC rankings.”

On what a victory will mean: “I think that with yet another victory, the UFC may start looking at me with different eyes, considering me as someone who could fight for the belt eventually. I wouldn’t call out any specific opponents, but I would like to face someone who can help me get into the top 15. Of course, my head is only on Hector Urbina right now, but it will be a very interesting moment for me once I win this fight. I wish to fight as often as the UFC needs me, as long as I’m healthy, always giving the best possible performances.”

His thoughts on Urbina: “From what I could see, he’s a complete fighter. Most of his wins are either by submission or knockout. He’s very experienced, with a long fight record. My plan is always to strike at first. Striking is my best weapon. But I also train on the ground – wrestling and luta livre. If he wants to go to the ground, I’m OK with that. Maybe I’ll take top position and land some ground-and-pound. And I have several submissions up my sleeve. I think it will be a good fight. He’s not shy and always tries to finish his opponents. I do the same thing. I think he fans will enjoy our fight. I doubt it’s going to decision since we both move forward, looking for a finish.”
