Wanderlei Silva to Get New Hearing For NSAC Ban

October 6, 2015 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Wanderlei Silva is set to go back in front of the NSAC for a new discipline after the commission’s lifetime ban was overturned in May. Silva’s attorney told MMAjunkie that Silva will be at the commission’s October 29th meeting to get a new ruling, saying, “They’re going to impose new discipline based on the order.”

A rep for the commission confirmed the date of the hearing. Silva was banned by the NSAC for life after he evaded a commission-ordered drug test in connection with his eventually-scratched fight with Chael Sonnen at UFC 175. He appealed the ruling, arguing that he wasn’t licensed at the time of the test and thus the NSAC had no jurisdiction. He retired after the ban was levied.

In May, a Nevada district judge threw out the ban, ruling that it was “arbitrary and capricious.” He ordered a new sanction be handed down.

Silva’s lawyer said Silva won’t be present, noting, “I’m not going to have him show up, because our whole position is that they don’t have jurisdiction over him anyway. I’m not going to do a Nick Diaz. There’s nothing to gain.”
