Weigh-In Event For UFC Fight Night 102 Cancelled

MMA Junkie reports that the UFC will not host a ceremonial weigh-in event before UFC Fight Night 102. The fight card happens on December 9 at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York. UFC officials stated that “portions of the official weigh-in, currently scheduled for 9-11 a.m. ET, will be taped and posted to UFC.com and UFC Fight Pass later the same day.”

Starting with UFC 199, officials created a new “early” or official weigh-in process which lets fighters have a two-hour period to step on the scale. They’re held early in the morning, which gives the fighters more time to rehydrate to improve health. It has become the standard process for UFC events worldwide, with commissions all around the world using it. UFC Fight Night 101 in Australia did not, as the official weigh-ins were a ceremonial, combined session due to the early local start time.

UFC said in a statement: “As UFC, in conjunction with the respective State Athletic Commissions, continues to look at opportunities to improve athlete health and safety and provide better weight management opportunities, it will also review its current weigh-in event format. As such, the official New York State Athletic Commission weigh-in for ‘UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Abdurakhimov’ will be the only weigh-in event in Albany.”

UFC 206 may have also played a part in the decision, as it happens a day later. Here’s the lineup for Fight Night 102:
