Beauty and the Beast Makes $63 Million for Opening Day
Per Box Office Mojo, Disney’s live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast had a very successful opening day, pulling an estimated $63 million at the domestic box office for its opening frame. The film is currently on track for an opening weekend in the range of $155-162 million.
Currently, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice holds the opening weekend record for March at the box office with $166 million. Beauty and the Beast could potentially break that record for March, but it’s still too early to tell. By comparison, Batman v Superman opened with $81.5 million for its first Friday.
Disney is more than likely ecstatic with these results. While the film did get some mixed reviews from critics, the film is on track to become a highly profitable release. It had a budget of $160 million, and will likely make back at least its production budget this weekend.
