Fast and Furious Spin-Off Planned With Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham
Deadline reports that a Fast & Furious spin-off movie featuring U.S. Diplomatic Security Agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) is officially being developed at Universal. It’s only in the early stages at the moment, but producers and executives have met about the project. Chris Morgan will write the script, as he has several of the sequels in the franchise. It’s possible that the film could get made while they’re putting together the script for the ninth film in the main series.
Johnson joined the franchise with Fast Five and Statham joined a film later in Fast & Furious 6. They started as villains (or an antagonist in Hobbs’ case) to the main cast but eventually joined them to stop greater threats. So far The Fate of the Furious has earned $685 million worldwide as it hits its seconds weekend of release.
