Hulu Orders Pilot For Locke & Key Series
Locke & Key has found a new potential home at Hulu. Deadline reports that the streaming service has ordered a pilot for the series, which is based on the critically-acclaimed comic by Joe Hill. Scott Derrickson, who directed Doctor Strange, will direct the pilot and may direct more episodes should it be ordered to series.
Locke & Key centers on the Locke family, who are traumatized after a run-in with a disturbed individual results in the death of the family patriarch. Nina Locke and her children — Tyler, Kinsey and Bode — return to the Locke’s ancestral home in New England, where young Bode discovers that a series of keys allows him to use the doors of the house to transform himself in a variety of ways. The home is also home to a malevolant individual who will stop at nothing until it is able to free itself from captivity and use the keys for its own ends.
The horror-fantasy series has nearly seen life in the past both as a television series and a film, but both eventually fell apart. The previous series was developed at FOX and received a series order with Miranda Otto, Sarah Bolger, Nick Stahl and Ksenia Solo starring, but the network backed off at the last minute after the pilot was produced. A sizzle reel was eventually shown at San Diego Comic-Con.
