Robert Downey Jr. to Star in The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle
Robert Downey Jr. is set to star in The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle. THR reports that the star is set to play the famed character in a new film based on the 1920s children books by Hugh Lofting. Stephen Gaghan (Syriana) will direct the film from a script he wrote, which was based on a previous draft by Tom Shepherd. Universal won a bidding war last week to get the rights to the film.
Doctor Dolittle is set up as a family adventure and will center on the character who can talk to animals. The property was previously adapted into a 1967 musical featuring Rex Harrison as well as a 1998 comedy (and sequel) starring Eddie Murphy in the role.
