The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Steven Spielberg and the Duffer Brothers (Stranger Things) are teaming up to finally adapt Stephen King and Peter Straub’s 1984 novel The Talisman, which Spielberg has been trying to get off the ground for decades. Spielberg has been working on a possible adaptation since 1982, when he got the screen rights, two years before the book was published.

The latest iteration of the project would be a series, which Matt and Ross Duffer would executive produce for Netflix through Monkey Massacre Productions, along with Spielberg’s Amblin Television and Paramount Television Studios. Curtis Glen would be the writer and showrunner. King will also produce, as well as Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey

The story follows a 12-year-old boy named Jack Sawyer, who goes on a quest to save his dying mother by finding the Talisman, a magical artifact that can heal her and save the world. He moves between America and its twin, The Territories during his journey. The book was a hit when it was published and a sequel, Black House, was published in 2001.

Prior to this version, Mike Barker (The Handmaid’s Tale) was in talks for a feature film in 2019.
