The Onion Partners With Lionsgate on New Film Deal

January 9, 2017 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

The Onion is known primarily for its satirical news content, but now it’s making the jump into feature films. Onion, Inc. announced a joint partnership today with Serious Business to create multiple films over the next two years for Lionsgate. Onion Studios will team with Jason U. Nadler, Alex Blagg, and Jon Zimelis – the creators of Comedy Central‘s @midnight with Chris Hardwick – to develop three films for Lionsgate over the next two years.

“We’ve plotted our takeover of the film industry for some time,” said Kyle Ryan, Vice President of Onion Studios. “With the help of Serious Business and Lionsgate, we’ll make room on our award shelf for some Oscars. To the basement you go, Pulitzers.”

In addition to managing all distribution, Lionsgate will utilize the marketing reach of Onion, Inc. and Fusion Media Group properties to promote the films.
