Adele’s 21 Joins List Of Highest Selling Albums Since 1991

Billboard reports that Adele’s 21 has joined an elite group of albums that have sold over 10 million, one of only 21 to do so since SoundScan started tracking sales in 1991.

21 went to 10 million in its 92nd week of release. The last album to get the number faster was N Sync’s No Strings Attached in 43 weeks in January 2001. 21 is the 21st album to sell 10 million. In a statement released by Columbia Records, Adele said: “What an incredible honor. A huge, huge thank you to my American fans for embracing this record on such a massive level.

The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 on March 12, 2011. It was 24 non-consecutive weeks on top, the most since 1991. It hasn’t left the top 40 and it had 80 weeks in the top ten. This week it went from 31-35.

Here is a list of teh albums that have sold more than 10 million in the US since 1991, when SoundScan began monitoring sales.
