Alicia Keys Ties Record For Most #1 R&B/Hip-Hop Chart Albums
Billboard reports that Alicia Keys has earned her sixth straight number one R&B/Hip-Hop album with Girl on Fire this week.
This ties Keys with DMX, R. Kelly, Kanye West, and Luther Vandross for the most consecutive #1 albums amongst solo artists. The overall record is held by The Temptations, who had 10 straight #1 albums between 1965 and 1969. Girl on Fire went from #65 to #1 after an early street-date violation which put it onto the chart a week earlier than expected. The album has now moved over 159,000 copies in its first official week on sale according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Coming in at #2 was Rihanna’s Unapologetic, which was down a spot from the top position last week. Keyshia Cole’s Woman to Woman also fell a spot and ended up at #3 while Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City slipped a spot to #4. Cee Lo Green’s Cee Lo’s Magic Moment was up eleven spots to #5.
As for the singles chart, Rihanna’s “Diamonds” held onto #1 for its ninth week while “Girl on Fire” is up three places to #2. Kendrick Lamar’s “Swimming Pools (Drank)” rose one rung to #3 and Kanye West, Jay-Z and Big Sean’s “Clique” was down two to #4. Miguel’s “Adorn” closed out the top five, down two places.
