Anniversary Editions Announced For The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
Entertainment Weekly reports that 50th anniversary editions of The Beatles’ album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band is on the way.
The first will debut on April 22, which is Record Store Day. It will be a limited edition vinyl single of “Strawberry Fields Forever.” and “Penny Lane”. The songs were recorded during the sessions for the album but left off.
On May 26, the anniversary editions of the album will debut. They include deluxe CD and vinyl, with previously unreleased takes of the album included. The “super deluxe” edition will feature six discs with a stereo mix, original mono mix and additional session recordings. There will also be DVDs with the album’s original promotional material and a previously unreleased documentary The Making of Sgt. Pepper, featuring interviews with McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr along with studio footage.
The album was originally released on June 1, 1967 and included songs like “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.”
In the book that accompanies the release, Starr said: “Sgt. Pepper’s seemed to capture the mood of that year, and it also allowed a lot of other people to kick off from there and to really go for it.“
