Britney Spears’ Las Vegas Residency May Not Happen
Buzzfeed reports that Britney Spears’ $100 million per year deal for a residency at Ceasar’s Palace in Las Vegas may have went up in smoke.
Caesar’s Entertainment says that they are not in talks with Spears and she will not be at the Colosseum any time soon. Emily Wofford, public relations director for CE, said there wasn’t room in the schedule for Spears, adding “We are packed every weekend. [Caesars] is engaged with a number of today’s top artists in discussions regarding headlining residencies at our venues in Las Vegas. [Caesars is] always interested in having artists with the caliber of Britney Spears performing at our theaters.“
The rumors started just after Spears announced that she will not be returning to FOX’s The X Factor next season. Some speculated that the story was leaked to take attention away from the X Factor story. The Colosseum is currently hosting residencies by Celine Dion, Elton John, and Shania Twain through 2014. Rod Stewart also has a two-year contract that will be up in August.
Another venue that was rumored was Planet Hollywood’s 7,000 seat PH Live theater, managed by Base Entertainment. That rumor ended when hypnotist Marshall Sylver announced he would start a residency there on March 19.
Another source said: “There was one definite offer for Britney in Las Vegas. A second one followed when the news broke.”
The idea is still under “serious consideration”, but no deal will happen until she has finished her new album.
One reason that a deal may not happen is because of her history with lip-synching. After the Beyonce incident, there hasn’t been any talk about bringing Spears into Vegas.
There is still hope for Las Vegas Britney fans, as she recently wrote the following on Twitter: “I don’t think so honey #VivaLasVegas RT @hannahspears Mommy, are dogs allowed to gamble in vegas? Gonna cash all my bones in for chips.”
