Chance the Rapper Says Despite Apple Music Deal, He’s Still Independent

March 17, 2017 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

– Chance the Rapper has long prided himself on not having a relationship with a record label, a reputation that some called into question after his last album was released via Apple Music. 2016’s Coloring Book was a two-week exclusive on the service and had many people suggesting that the rap artist wasn’t as independent as he professed to be.

Now, he’s taken to Twitter to clear up the situation. Chance posted a series of tweets in which he discussed his deal with Apple, noting that the half a million-dollar deal was specifically for the two-week window and then ended. Chance said that “I needed the money and they’re all good people over there,” noting that he was discussing it in order to keep people from discrediting “all the work we did to make Coloring Book what it became.”
