Ed Sheeran Settles Copyright Lawsuit Over ‘Photograph’

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ed Sheeran has reached a settlement to end a $20 million copyright infringement lawsuit over his song “Photograph.” Settlement terms were not disclosed. Sony/ATV and Warner Music were also named in the suit. Court papers were filed on Friday to dismiss the case with prejudice, noting that a California federal court has jurisdiction to enforce the terms.

Martin Harrington and Thomas Leonard (and publishing company HaloSongs) filed the suit in June of last year, claiming the song stole from their 2009 track “Amazing.” That was released by Matt Cardle, the 2010 winner of . The complaint said Sheeran’s track featured “verbatim, note-for-note copying.” Sheet music was provided to prove their case. It was originally challenged for pleading standards and jurisdiction, but a judge approved the case in January.
