First Look at Joseph Fiennes as Michael Jackson in Urban Myths
After courting controversy last year for the casting of Joseph Fiennes as Michael Jackson, the first trailer for Urban Myths has been released and it’s…something. You can judge for yourself in the below trailer for the British TV film from Sky Arts, which also stars Stockard Channing as Elizabeth Taylor and Brian Cox as Marlon Brando in a story about a fabled road trip the three real-life stars took following the 9/11 terror attacks.
The project drew criticism for the white Fiennes being cast as Jackson, with Fiennes telling THR last February that he got why people were “up in arms” over the decision.
“The decision with the casting and the producers — I wrangled with it, I was confused and shocked at what might come my way,” Fiennes said, “and I knew the sensitivity, especially to Michael’s fans and to Michael’s family. It doesn’t negate who he was.”
Also appearing in the project are Eddie Marsan as Bob Dylan, Ben Chaplin as Cary Grant, Aidan Gillen as Dr. Leary, David Threlfall as Samuel Beckett, Iwan Rheon as Adolf Hitler and Rupert Grint as Hitler’s friend. It premieres on January 19th on Sky Arts in the UK.
