NME reports that Spotify users have voted PSY’s “Gangnam Style” as the most popular song played on New Year’s Eve this year.

It was the song Spotify users played the most on December 31 as 2012 ended and 2013 began. “Gangnam Style” had twice as many plays as the #2 choice, which was Rihanna’s “Diamonds”.

This caps off a huge year of success for PSY (real name Park Jae-Sang). The video passed a billion views on Youtube. The song was the first UK #1 by a Korean artist and it has sold over four million copies worldwide. It also broke the record on Youtube for the “most liked” video with 2,234,180 likes. Guinness World Records said that it passed LMFAO’s ‘Party Rock Anthem’ (1,574,963), Justin Bieber’s ‘Baby’ (1,327,147) and Adele’s ‘Rolling In The Deep’ (1,245,641).
