Lady Gaga Gives Deposition In Lawsuit Against Her From Ex-Assistant
Lady Gaga was deposed earlier this month for a lawsuit filed against her by her former assistant. Celebuzz reports that Gaga was sued by Jennifer O’Neill, who claims that the pop star’s Mermaid Touring Company stiffer her for $380,000 in unpaid overtime. As previously reported, O’Neill claims that there were no breaks for meals or sleep and that she was needed for Gaga’s “spontaneous, random matters in the middle of the night.” She says she worked for thirteen months and had to do all sorts of things, including making sure Gaga had a towel right after showers and “serving as a personal alarm clock to keep (Gaga) on schedule.”
O’Neill’s attorney spoke about the case after Gaga was deposed, saying, “I have been very pleased with the outcome of discovery thus far. Just by her (Gaga’s) responses, I believe our case is strong.”
He added, “At this point, there’s nothing to stop it from going to trial…She absolutely will [take the stand]. Lady Gaga and Jennifer knew each other as friends before they worked together professionally. Anytime there’s litigation that may have a more personal element, they may be more difficult to resolve.”
He finished, “Jennifer’s motivation is pure and simple — to obtain payment for hours worked. It doesn’t matter if you work for a star or it’s glamorous. Work is work. [Gaga] has indicated she would like to contest this matter in court. If that’s what she wants — and my client wants — I am more than willing to go there, 100 percent.”
A trial date should be set in the next couple of weeks.
