Marvin Gaye’s Son Doesn’t Want Lenny Kravtiz To Play His Father
TMZ reports that Marvin Gaye’s son, Marvin Gaye III, wants his childhood friend Lenny Kravitz to turn down playing his father in an upcoming biopic, because he thinks the project is “shameful”.
Kravitz is set to play Gaye in Sexual Healing (this is the working title), which focuses on Marvin’s life in the 1980s when he was battling drug abuse and depression before his father shot and killed him in 1984.
Marvin Gaye III said: “The producers and directors of this film are very wrong and shameful … [They're] trying to do a film about a low period in his life. They don’t even know the whole story.“
Marvin III says that he and Kravitz went to school together and are still friends, so he wants to “talk to him about why he would do this.” He said that his family is trying to meet with lawyers to stop production. He added: “I would hope [Lenny] doesn’t have any idea that we are against this film being done.“
