During a recent interview, Megadeth bassist David Ellefson revealed that he is now an online student in the Specific Ministry Program at Concordia Seminary, which is operated by the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. He is currently studying to be a Lutheran pastor, and he was asked to use his music background to start a contemporary worship service.

On growing up with the church: “I came from a good family, not a broken home. That became a model for me, and I saw church at center of it.”

On writing songs using lyrics from the Old Testament: “For a Christmas service, I remixed some classics, not quite in a Megadeth fashion, but in a pretty heavy rock fashion.”

On combining his love of church and heavy metal: “Some people want to morph things together into one, but I have a hand in both worlds. I love praise and worship music, and I love heavy metal.”
