MIA Says Her Album Was Delayed For Being Too Positive

January 7, 2013 | Posted by Joseph Lee

In an interview with Australian newspaper The Gold Coast Bulletin (via NME), MIA said that her upcoming album was delayed for being too positive.

She released her single “Bad Girls” last year and was preparing to release her fourth album Matangi in late 2012. She said that Interscope weren’t happy with the album and wanted something different.

She said: “It’s due in April, which is the Tamil new year – April 15th – and I’m still working on it.

The label told her to “darken it up a bit”. She added: “I thought I’d finished it. I finished it and then I handed the record in, like a couple of months ago. It’s like ‘We just built you up as the public enemy No 1 and now you’re coming out with all this positive stuff’.
