Mitch Winehouse Says He Won’t Put His Family Through Another Death Inquest For Amy
The Evening Standard reports that Mitch Winehouse has said his family cannot deal with another inquest into the death of Amy Winehouse.
Amy died at her home in Camden last year. Deputy assistant coroner Suzanne Greenaway ruled that she died from accidental alcohol poisoning. It was eventually revealed that Greenaway was not qualified which made the verdict invalid. She was appointed by her husband Andrew Reid for the job without her qualifications being checked. Both have resigned and a new inquest is scheduled for next month. Mitch Winehouse said the family doesn’t want another inquest and he doesn’t want to attend the January 8 hearing at St. Pancras coroner’s court.
He added: “There have been so many cock-ups. Firstly the coroner’s report was sent to the wrong house up the road from Janis (the singer’s mother) — and the bloke who received it tried to sell it. Then this cock-up with the chief coroner putting his wife in charge, though she wasn’t qualified. I’m not putting my family through it again. Right now I’d say I won’t go. And the result will be just the same.“
Winehouse spoke about the inquest as he wa giving a check for £30,000 ($48,546) from the Amy Winehouse Foundation to the Roundhouse in Camden. This was for a radio project to help disadvantaged young people find work in the industry.
