Prince Releases New Song “Boyfriend” But Charges Money
NME reports that Prince has released a new song called “Boyfriend”, but is charging fans 88 cents to listen to it.
He has released new music on his website 3rdeyegirl since last year. This song comes after “Rock And Roll Love Affair” in December, “Screwdriver” on February 11 and “Breakfast can Wait” from this month. The twitter account for his website also linked to a video that introduces three musicians before showing the message: “Live Out Loud, Coming In February, 2013”.
He upset fans last week by charging for them to see the music video for “Screwdriver” for $1.77. Musicians usually charge for fans to download a music video, but not to actually see it. Prince’s video is not streaming anywhere else such as Youtube or Vevo. “Boyfriend” is also not being streamed anywhere.
Prince finished a series of rehearsal shows in Minneapolis after he booked six dates at a jazz club to audition for a new drummer and host a jam session for his band. This combined with the new music has started rumros that he will go on tour this year. No dates have been scheduled yet.
Prince also made a surprise appearance at the Grammy Awards this year to give the award for Record of the Year to Gotye.
