Pussy Riot Member Moved To Solitary Confinement

November 23, 2012 | Posted by Ashish

Maria Alyokhina, one of the imprisoned members of Pussy Riot, has been moved to solitary confinement. She’s currently serving a two-year sentence at a remote prison camp about 700 miles away from Moscow. The imprisonment stems from staging an impromptu gig in Moscow’s main cathedral and singing an anti-Putin song during the performance.

It was her decision to be moved away from the other inmates, according to reports.

“Some tensions arose in relationships and, apparently, to prevent this situation from escalating, she decided to submit a request to the prison leadership and they moved her to a one-person cell,” a prison spokesperson told BBC.

Two members of the three-girl feminist punk band remain in prison, while the third got off after her lawyer argued that she had not even removed her guitar from its case before being kicked out of the cathedral. The two members who are imprisoned, including Maria, were sent off to harsh, remote prison camps.
