Randy Jackson Leaving American Idol
The exodus from American Idol may have just kicked off. Randy Jackson told E! Online that he will be departing the show after the current twelfth season.
Jackson told the site, “After 12 years of judging on ‘American Idol’ I have decided it is time to leave after this season. I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It’s been a life changing opportunity but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures.”
Jackson is the only remaining judge from the show’s original 2002 judge’s lineup; Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell jumped ship in 2009 and 2010. The show has seem constant dips in the rating and last night was beaten by NBC’s The Voice in head-to-head competition. In addition, various rumors have suggested that both Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey may not be back, with rumors saying that the Idol crew and producers were pissed at the drama around Minaj’s antics and tried to replace Carey with former judge Jennifer Lopez midseason, which was halted only when Carey threatened a lawsuit.
Keith Urban is, at this point, the only judge not rumored to be leaving, though anything is possible as the show will probably try and fix their donward slide for unlucky season number thirteen.
