The Black Keys Settle Lawsuits With Home Depot And Pizza Hut
The BBC reports that The Black Keys have settled lawsuits against Pizza Hut and Home Depot for copyright infringement. The band sued both companies in June after their songs were used in TV commercials without their permission. Pizza Hut used “Gold on the Ceiling” while “Lonely Boy” had been used for Home Depot. Both companies denied copying the songs.
Details of the settlement were not revealed. Original court documents said the commercials were “a brazen and improper effort to capitalize on plaintiffs’ hard-earned success”. Producer Brian Burton (Danger Mouse) also sued.
Lawyers for the band told a Los Angeles federal judge about the Pizza Hut settlement on Monday, while the settlement with Home Depot was made earlier this month.
Both songs appeared on the band’s seventh album El Camino. The album was released last year and sold over a million copies.
