The Cribs Don’t Think Nirvana Would Get Signed Today

December 31, 2012 | Posted by Joseph Lee

In an interview with Bang Showbiz, The Cribs’ Ryan and Gary Jarman said they didn’t think that Nirvana would be able to get a record deal in 2012, because they wouldn’t have enough radio-friendly hits to appeal to the masses.

Ryan said: “Bands like Nirvana, Sonic Youths, the bands that come up from the underground and cross over, the problem is there’s no time to do that now. ‘Even with underground bands, if people like them, they totally get over exposed really quickly, then people move on to the next thing. That’s my only concern; that bands can’t come up through those channels anymore.’

He also said that real music fans should listen to the band’s entire album from start to finish to appreciate it as a body of work, instead of just downloading the singles heard on radio.

He added: “It’s about the single now, but I think people have got a shorter attention span now, the single, to us, is usually the one were least interested in, it’s the immediate, the most direct and it’s the stuff you put on the album, that’s the most satisfying stuff. So, it would a real be a shame if it went that way.
