The Low End Theory 1.12.13 The New Year Same Song Edition

January 12, 2013 | Posted by Tony Acero

Its 2013, bitches! Hip Hop is alive and well! Actually, one look at the newswire and I’d have to question the “alive” part. Seriously, ain’t no news out there that’s any different than 2012, and that’s a damned shame. Anyways, I took a week off to recharge the batteries. With end of the year columns, the 5&1, and finishing up a new short, I was typing far too much. I couldn’t even play air guitar right! So we’re back here in the Low End, the column that is always growin, and I posted something about Nicki Minaj to which a person on my friend’s list claimed that she is the “Eminem of female rappers.” Once I disagreed, all shit hit the fan with one particular buddy, who said a number of things, but the gist was that Nicki was better than Eminem. I won’t go so far as to put the kid on blast, but there are some people out there that really seem to have the entire hip hop world misconstrued. Have I finally become the ol whippersnapper that knows “nothing about today’s music?” And more importantly, do I want to know more about it?

In case you guys were wonderin just what Our Girl Hope talks about while she’s on sabbatical, I got a snippet of a conversation of hers here:

I love that girl…lol

Sebastian ft. Timbaland – The Wobbley Remix

I love bald bitches that’s my fuckin problem???

Nicki Minaj has teamed with K-Mart for a new clothing line. This makes sense considering there are people everywhere for both of them to just shut down and die…

Shawty Lo will be a part of a reality tv show that focuses on him and his 10 babies’ mommas. His claims of “not asking for it” are about as real as Nicki Minaj’s ass…

The Game has been accused by his step-father of being a stripper at one point in his life. He allegedly went by the name, “RATCHET KILLA.” Talk about ahead of the curve…

Rick Ross is said to be making his acting debut on Starz Magic City. Funny, I thought he’d been acting his whole career.

Hip Hop and CNN don’t have many ties to one another, unless it’s coverage of Bill O’Reilly dissing Ludacris or something, but recently the news powerhouse released an interview and opinion that hits close to our hearts. CNN’s Eliott C. McLaughlin recently put out that Nas is “the greatest lyricist of all time.” Nas, being the ever humble human being claims that it’s far too early in our lives to put a list together. I appreciate him swallowing the ego, but CNN may be right. I mean, it’s CNN! Right? In all seriousness, he thanks his fans who he claims sees a “universal music with an American feel” to it. I will say that his storytelling is top notch, and is really what draws a bulk of fans, new and old.

In other Nas news, he has already begun prep work for his next album. He claims that he is in the right state of mind, probably still riding the high of his last album doing well in 2012. Even 411 loved it, making the list of Top 25 albums of the year, and placing pretty high. Any creative mind, when you’re feeling that vibe, the worst thing to do is let it go, so if Nas wants to get in the booth and keep telling his stories, I have NO issue with that. Nas always feels like a throwback of sorts, and in a world that is slowly devolving, it’s welcomed news to hear that he’s not planning on stopping any time soon.

Finally, he was asked who he thought had a great 2012 in music, and he said, “No disrespect to nobody else in rap music, but Kendrick Lamar. I’m really happy about his record. I needed that. His record reaches you.” I think I’ve talked enough bout Kendrick in this column, but it just goes to show that the young gun has had a hell of an impact on hip hop.

Your Turn: Do you think Nas should slow down after the success of his last album?

So about the last time Kid Cudi dropped an album, there were a few complaints regarding how it was advertised. When his album WZRD dropped, he vented about Universal and the “mishandling” of his album. It appears that Cudi is singin the same ol song this time around. His tweets read:
King Wizard 3.4 million views on Vevo, Just What I Am has 4.3 million and my shit is not on regular rotation on radio. Hmmm.

Trinidad James got 4.1 million views on his hit (rightfuly so), and I hear that jam EVERYWHERE. Where’s my fuckin spins???

I’m talkin numbers. I’m talkin stats.

To my label, I swear to all that is fuckin holy in this world, if things don’t change soon, there’s gonna be some problems.

I worked too hard on all this shit. Producing, writing, directing AND executing the shit proper. I did my part, I put in work. Wtf

Yall kno I cuts no slack. Not w my music. Every song is my life. A piece of my fuckin tormented soul. It matters to me. I give a fuck

I would like to first point out that Cud has some valid points, and it’s unfortunate. But I would one-up that by saying complaining about it on Twitter will get you know where. I never understood the need for any one person to use places such as Facebook or Twitter as a place to vent frustrations. As a celebrity, there are two people that follow you: fans and haters. Fans are only going to pat you on the back and “agree” for a second before moving on with their lives. Haters will take this as ammunition and attack you. You know who ISN’T following you on Twitter? Universal. There are so many motivations behind what is played on the radio, and it’s an argument that not even I want to get into. Far too many variables that Cudi just didn’t hit. He’s simply not a mainstream artist, and as far as I know, that’s exactly where he wants to be in terms of being an artist. We are all aware of how the world works, and Cud, there are very few “radio friendly” people that want to hear about your “tormented soul.”

Consider this more of an update than anything. Since the incarnation of The Hip Hop Hotties, I have made every effort possible to actually know each girl I include. To them, it was a way to get them out there a bit more, and to me it was an extra content that pulled in readers. I realized at the tail end of 2012, even a guy like me can only know so many hot females, and I have had to branch out. 2013 will be bringing us more beautiful ladies, and an opportunity to get to know them as well. We’ll be starting off with a bang next week, but for now let me just remind you who our lovely Hip Hop Hottie of the Year is!

Angel actually took it upon herself to take a couple of shots, specifically for The Low End Theory, and I thank her for that. Expect more of her, as well as more beautiful ladies this year as we continue looking for hot ladies that love hip hop!

Azealia Banks
by Walter Reyes

In todays world where everyone is like an Aquarius and all sensitive and shit we have to watch our words sometimes. Now when dealing with social media you have to do so ten fold. Some people just don’t give a fuck tho and will let a gossiping homosexual have it. Recently there was a Twitter clit fight between Azealia Banks and Angela Haze which somehow found a third clit involved when gossip columnist Perez Hilton got involved. Perez decided to give the fued a Twilight twist and started recruiting for team Haze on twitter. Perez and Azealia started jousting with twats on twitter and Azealia shot a major verbal cumshot all over Perez Hilton…”Messy Faggot” she tweeted. Now is a racial, sexual or anti-gay slur ever ok…that’s for your grown ass to decide but I know Azealia being the Douche that she is didn’t think she was in the wrong and once you add the extra $$$ that came in after her anti-gay slur she could give a fuck even less!!! Especially when that extra money is coming from sales from a 1991 project! I bet Perez is bitter that this twitter battle didnt boost sales for his 2010 single “Rocket to Uranus”. If you ask me Azealia is a douche and this whole shit is gay! PEACE!

This is quite the condensed edition of The Low End, but rest assured that I’m workin on something big. From a different look, to more content, to more exclusive interviews. You’re going to see new artists and new models, with the same ol Tony. Yup, ya just can’t get rid of me. Thanks for reading!
