Hey guys, I’m getting ready for a weekend camping trip, so I’m going to have to cut this thing a bit shorter than usual. I hear I’m supposed to be worried about bears and thunderstorms…hell yes! As for the column worry not, because the hottie contest is still running, and I still got Crystal and Joseph on deck. They will be joining us tomorrow, so be sure to check back on The Low End Theory to see the updated version.

Last week, we spoke about the man that is 2 Chainz in the opening. I had yet to listen to his album, but my co-writer Crystal wasn’t feelin it too much. This week, I bring to you my review, in its entirety HERE. In short, it didn’t strike me as anything worthy of listening to again save for one or two tracks. In other news, the Hip Hop Hottie contest is moving right along. Who will join Ashley in the waiting room of the finals this week? Find out below.

Before we get to the news, I wanted to take the time – yet again – to thank our loyal fan base, as well as every new reader that takes the time to check us out. I know isn’t exactly the spot you think of in terms of hip hop music, but we’ve truly come a long way here and I think each of you readers had something to do with that. Whether it be the hotties that support and allow me to exploit them, the interviews with rappers, or just conversating with you guys here, Facebook, Twitter, etc., it’s all love and I appreciate it immensely.

– Both Drake and Chris Brown are being sued for $16 million dollars over the little scuffle they had recently. This is one dollar for every stupid tweet Brown has sent and every song Drake has tried to sing in.

2 Chainz is apparently getting a lot of heat for referring to himself as “2Pac without a nose ring.” Maybe he was referring to his talent as being dead…

2 Chainz came out and said he wants to do more songs like Justin Bieber’s “Girlfriend.” Aim high, 2 Chainz…aim high.

DJ Khaled has apparently forgot that rent is due and is now being sued for $55,000 in back rent. Do you know how much Mountain Dew that could buy?!

Tony Reviews 2 Chainz

The review should be up at the time of reading, and if you want the link, I put it in the intro. I figured I’d share a few snippets of it, nonetheless.

“The album starts off strong, highlighting the stronger points of 2 Chainz. The intro track, “Yuck” co-stars Lil Wayne who adds absolutely nothing to the song, but that’s not what’s important here. 2 Chainz, essentially sets the tone here with somewhat clever lines and a lot of humor that pretty much signifies he’s here to have some fun.”

“Songs like “Crack,” “Money Machine,” “Dope Peddler” and “I’m Different” all have an unfortunate similar thread of excessive repetition and pretty subpar lyrics.”

” His sound isn’t unique or new, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I just don’t want it tossed at me with the presumption that it’s something brand new and worthy of my ears. I can’t help but laugh at the guy with some of his one-liners, but at the end of the day there is little substance to bite your teeth into when it comes to the album.

Troubles With Aaliyah’s Album

It appears that in an attempt to appease the naysayers, Drake and Noah “40” Shebib, as well as Aaliyah’s cousin, Jomo Hankerson, all claimed that Aaliyah faves Timbaland and Missy Elliot were to be involved in the project. This news made long time fans and skeptics – including myself – a bit more willing to allow the album to come out, but according to Missy’s manager, Mona Scott-Young, neither Timbo or Missy will be working on the album. She went so far to say that neither were contacted about it at all. This is a sad state of affairs, not solely because they won’t be involved, but also because someone here is lying. If that’s the case, then they are well aware that there are people that don’t want this out here, and makes it seem like more of a crash grab than anything else. I talked a few weeks ago about how this made little sense to me other than monetary, and it’s a bit upsetting that someone would want to touch a legacy that they had nothing to do with. This sounds like exploitation at its finest, and that’s a damned shame.

Your Turn: Is the Aaliyah album nothing but a crash grab, or are the parties legitimately interested in keeping her legacy alive?
The Weeknd to Tour Soon

Yeah, I know I was late on The Weeknd train, but I’m catchin up real quick and I’m really excited to hear that he’s going on tour soon! He’ll be teaming up with Florence + The Machine for a few dates, but other than that, he’ll bringing the goodness all over the country and Canada. As soon as I hear about it, I scanned the dates to assure that I’d be able to see him, and lucky for me he’ll have three shows in Cali. With Los Angeles being my stomping grounds, I’ll be there for sure, and can only hope a certain girl by the name of Natalie will be willing to join. 😉

In all seriousness, I’ve heard nothing but greatness about his shows and I’m super anxious to see him. I don’t know why it took me so long to listen to him, but due to the friend I just mentioned, as well as our co-writer Crystal, I gave him a chance and been stuck ever since. It’s unique, soothing and moving all in one. If he’s near your town, be sure to check him out.

Week two is in the books, and although she started off slow, Anastasia came out of nowhere in the end to take the lead and the win! She now joins Ashlee Arika in the finals, which we’ll get NEXT WEEK! Let’s congratulate Anastasia with a photo!

It’s the last round of the semi finals, and we’ve got three new lovelies ready to be voted upon. This week, one of the first hip hop hotties ever takes on two of the most recent ones. Randyl Dawn was one of the first ladies of The Low End Theory, and she’s looking to take on Angel and Danielle head first! But it’s up to you, readers! Let your voice be heard!

In case you were wondering what the ladies are fighting for – aside from notoriety of being the Hip Hop Hottie of the Year, they are also fighting for a $100 gift certificate to a store (online or otherwise) of their choosing AND two movie tickets! Sure, it may not sound like much but this is coming from The Low End Theory Budget and…it’s slim, alright.

Be sure to check back with me on 8/18 for all the greatness that I usually provide 😉
