The Mars Volta Split Up

January 24, 2013 | Posted by Joseph Lee

Billboard reports that The Mars Volta have split up.

Cedric Bixler-Zavala wrote on Twitter: “I can’t sit here and pretend any more. I no longer am a member of Mars Volta. sadly it’s over. I guess a break from mars volta means starting another band and ignoring all the support the fans gave us. I tried my hardest guys. What am I suppose to do be some progressive house wife that’s cool with watching their partner go fuck other bands? We owe it 2 fans to tour.

He said he “tried to get a full scale North American tour going for ‘Noctourniquet,’ but Omar Rodríguez-López, “did not want to.” He said this problem, plus the attention Lopez was giving to his project Bosnian Rainbows were the reasons for the split.

The band reunited their band At the Drive-In in 2012 and played several shows and festival dates, including main-stage runs at Coachella and Lollapalooza. Zavala is finishing up a solo release, but there are no release dates set.
