The Roots Teaming with Elvis Costello For New Album

January 22, 2013 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

The Roots are set to release a collaborative album with Elvis Costello this year. Questlove revealed the news to Billboard, telling the site that a full album will drop in 2013.

“It was really love at first sight,” Questlove said of Costello. “The second time he came on [Jimmy Fallon's show], we surpassed the first one. So by the third time, he was like, ‘Let’s stop messing around and do something together.'”

He addeed, “We had 13 or 14 songs, but then we said, ‘Ooh! Wait a minute! Let’s replace four of these songs with four better songs! And now we have the tightest 12-14 song collection out of about 20 songs that we made.”

Questlove also noted that the band will release their own LP, & Then You Shoot Your Cousin, late this year or early next year.
