Tool To Headline 2017 Governor’s Ball
Rolling Stone reports that Tool are set to headline the 2017 Governor’s ball, which will be their first show in New York City in 11 years. They join other artists like Chance the Rapper, Lorde, Wu-Tang Clan, Phoenix, Childish Gambino (a rare 2017 live performance due to his schedule), Cage the Elephant, The Avalanches, Wiz Khalifa, YG, Charli XCX, Rae Sremmurd, Air, Danny Brown, the Head and the Heart, A$AP Ferg, Schoolboy Q, Mac Demarco, Franz Ferdinand, Car Seat Headrest and more. The three-day festival runs from June 2-4 at Randall’s Island. Tickets go on sale Friday at GovBall.com.
Governors Ball organizers said Tool’s set will be a “full-length set with complete tour production”. It’s unknown if Tool’s return will be to promote a new album (which would be their first since 2006’s 10,000 Days). Their last show in the city was in May 2006 with two shows at the New York City Center. They have been in the area, however, with shows in East Rutherford and Jersey City, New Jersey and Uniondale, New York.
This will also be Phoenix’s first US concert since the FYF Fest in Los Angeles in August 2014 to support their 2013 album Bankrupt. The 2016 edition of the Ball had its last day cancelled due to “severe weather and a high likelihood of lightening”. This included a concert from Kanye West. West would then try to hold a pop-up concert in New York City, but it was cancelled after thousands crowded Webster Hall.
