UPDATE: TMZ is now reporting that the Rimes is now apparently saying she never gave a statement regarding the controversial performance.
TMZ says they called Rimes’ rep for comment after the controversial performance between Rimes and the 13-year-old Carly Rose Sonenclar. The quote TMZ printed was given to them by a rep from Rimes’ camp. The word was Rimes was not impaired by alcohol and any awkwardness was the result of Rimes “trying to help this 13-year-old girl who was having some trouble with the song.” Rimes then posted a message on her Twitter page which said she has not given the media a quote and said: “It’s a shame that gossip and lies are overshadowing the performance of Carly. It was an amazing opportunity to share this experience with Carly and I know I’ll be watching for her to win tonight.”
ORIGINAL: TMZ reports that singer LeAnn Rimes says she was not inebriated when she performed on The X Factor.
LeAnn says she was not impaired and it was awkward because, “I was trying to help this 13-year-old girl who was having some trouble with the song,” according ot Rimes. The report says that since Rimes believed Carly Rose Sonenclar was nervous and had difficulty with some of the notes, she was trying to help Sonenclar get through. Her lawyer, Larry Stein says, “LeAnn was not performing the way she would normally perform, because she was on stage with a young girl.” Stein added on why people thought Rimes was drunk: “There have been a lot of untrue things said by others and it feeds into this sort of thing.”
One report says Rimes made a plate of food backstage and spilled it everywhere. Stein claimed ignorance to that incident, but insists Rimes was sober.
