Whitney Houston and PSY Most Searched Topics on Google

December 13, 2012 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Whitney Houston and PSY were the two most searched topics on Google in 2012. Google has released their year-end report of “the spirit of the times as seen through the billions of searches on Google over the past year,” as it said in its blog post put up on Wednesday. Topping the list of trending searches–searchs which garner a high amount of traffic over a sustained period of time–was Houston, which came because of her death by accidental drowning in February just before she was set to perform at a pre-Grammy Awards party.

Meanwhile, PSY was #2…or more specifically, his song was. “Gangnam Style” hit the runner-up spot in trending searches for the year; the video is now approaching one billion views on YouTube. In other music-related trending news, One Direction had the most searched-for images with Selena Gomez at #2, both ahead of the iPhone 5. The list of trending “performing artists” (including singing and acting) is below:

1. Whitney Houston
2. Michael Clarke Duncan
3. One Direction
4. Donna Summer
5. Lana Del Ray
6. Carolina Dieckmann
7. Dirk Bach
8. Carly Rae Jepsen
9. Michel Telo
10. LMFAO
