Ohio Early Voting Numbers Highlight Importance of Ground Game
The race is now extremely close. What looked like a 2008-style electoral landslide a few weeks ago is now looking like a 2004-style squeaker. What that means is that unless we see another event that dramatically shifts the race, we’re headed towards a base-election dependent on turnout. This is why the early voting numbers we’re seeing out of Ohio right now — roughly 65% of early voters have been Democrats, and the new Public Policy poll of Ohio has Obama up 76% to 24% among early voters (51%-46% overall) — is becoming crucial. The Obama campaign has touted that they have set voter registration records in states like Ohio and North Carolina, as well as in Western states where the focus was on registering Hispanics.
