The Batiri are angry with UltraMantis Black. He ensured them victory last night and they ended up losing. They say Mantis has to do something to make things right. Mantis wants to know what they need from him. Mantis seems eager to please, because as he states, he can’t win the Challenge of the Immortals alone. The Batiri whisper into his ears what they want. Mantis agrees to the deal they have laid out, making them quite happy. Mantis tells the Batiri “let’s go to work.”

Crown & Court (Jervis Cottonbelly & Los Ice Creams (El Hijo del Ice Cream & Ice Cream Jr.) vs. The Arcane Horde (UltraMantis Black & The Batiri (Obariyon & Kodama)

Cottonbelly is now wearing wrist gauntlets with the Estonian Thunderfrog’s face on them. Jr. finds himself stuck in a headlock from all three Horde members back to back. Jr. backs Obariyon to the corner so Hijo can tag in. He puts Jr. in a side headlock himself. Jr. gets freed after a bit of time. Obariyon drops an elbow before reapplying the side headlock. Kodama headbutts Jr. in the shoulder, resulting in him rolling to the floor. Kodama overhand chops Hijo when he comes back into the ring. Jr. kicks him in the leg, then sends Kodama to the floor, breaking a waistlock. Kodama slingshots back in with an armdrag and dropkick. Kodama lays in a few more strikes and boots Hijo in the head a few times to stop his charges. He comes off the middle rope with a spinning back elbow. Cottonbelly and Mantis engage in a Lucha sequence, which Cottonbelly ends with a side Russian legsweep and a rock-a-bye suplex. He dropkicks Mantis to the floor. Kodama attacks from behind and pitches Cottonbelly out himself. Hijo strikes Kodama in the neck and pinches his buttocks. Kodama batis Hijo into a running knee to the back of the head from Obariyon. The Batiri take him down with a high low combo. Cottonbelly takes a Mongolian chop from Mantis. He and Kodama rock-a-bye him into the corner. Obariyon hip tosses Jr. into a running knee strike. Hijo strikes Obariyon in the face. Obariyon responds with a couple shots of his own. Hijo monkey flips Obariyon into an elbow drop from Cottonbelly for two. Obariyon takes control of an exchange with Cottonbelly in the corner. Kodama rubs his face paint onto Cottonbelly. He wants a suplex, but Cottonbelly reverses and tags in Jr. Jr. gets in a few stomps and sends Kodama to the apron. Kodama punches Jr. Kodama drops Jr. with a Flying Blockbuster for the pin at 10:09. This was rough around the edges and neither spectacular in the humor or wrestling department. It also lacked any semblance of structure or story. The crowd’s lack of investment didn’t help matters either. *

Heidi Lovelace vs. Argus

Ophidian is in Argus’ corner and ‘Mr. Touchdown’ Mark Angelosetti is in Lovelace’s corner. After trading some holds, Lovelace goes for an arm scissors. Argus grabs the ropes before it can be fully applied. Lovelace tries for a headlock, but Argus turns it into a headscissors which Lovelace pops out of. They repeat the previous exchange with the roles reversed. Argus maneuvers her into a seatbelt pin for two. Lovelace charges and is taken over with an armdrag. Argus hammerlocks the arm and drops his knee. He drives Lovelace arm first into the canvas out of an arm wringer. He ties her up in a hammerlock while leaning back on her other arm behind his back. Lovelace breaks the arm hold with some punches and a sole butt kick. She goes for the Heidicanrana, but Argus ducks and puts on Cattle Mutilation. Lovelace gets her foot on the rope to escape. Argus misses a corner splash. Lovelace kicks him in the side of the head thrice. She uses the ropes to bounce out of a monkey flip attempt and into a lateral press. Argus fights off a backdrop driver by hitting her arm. He tries a German suplex. Lovelace elbows her way free. She kicks out Argus’ leg and pulls off the Heidicanrana for the pin at 5:56. The competitive nature of the match made Argus look strong. He kept his focus on the arm and Heidi caught him off guard. A little more time would have been nice, but they accomplished what they needed to. **¼

Hallowicked says the journey to winning Challenge of the Immortals starts with Silver Ant. He thinks there’s a monster inside of Silver Ant and wants to see him unleash it in the ring. Silver Ant says he gets in the ring to fight people. While he is open to advice, he isn’t into the praying and seances that the rest of the Nightmare Warriors participate in. While he’s more than committed to giving his all in ring, that part of the group he does not wish to be a part of. A nod from Hallowicked has us believe that he finds that answer acceptable.

Challenge of the Immortals
The Nightmare Warriors (Frightmare, Silver Ant & Blind Rage) vs. The Wrecking Crew (The Devastation Corporation (Max Smashmaster & Flex Rumblecrunch) & Jaka)

Hallowicked’s team represent The Nightmare Warriors while Smashmaster’s team represents the Wrecking Crew. These two teams are tied for first, so the winning team will be atop the Challenge of Immortals leaderboard (for now). Silver Ant and Jaka fight for control to start. Twice Silver Ant gets a nearfall during the period. Jaka shoulder blocks Silver Ant and intercepts his leapfrog with a bodyslam. This leads to a strike and boot exchange. Silver Ant sends Jaka outside with an enzuigiri and suicide dives after him. Rumblecrunch shoves down Rage, but Rage keeps coming at him. He then throws a series of punches and drops Rage with a spinebuster. Rage drops down the top rope, sending Rumblecrunch outside. Smashmaster absorbs a top rope dropkick and strikes from Frightmare. Frightmare is not deterred as the nails Smashmaster with clotheslines until Smashmaster falls over the top rope. Frightmare tope con hilo’s onto him. Jaka and Rumblecrunch jump Frightmare from behind. Jaka misses a corner splash. Silver Ant and Frightmare work in tandem to take Jaka down. Smashmaster enters and catches Silver Ant’s crossbody. He gives Silver Ant a fallaway slam and a standing senton for two. Silver Ant finds himself bullied in the Wrecking Crew’s corner, until a misstep from Rumblecrunch sees him knock down Smashmaster with a shoulder block off the top. He hits Rumblecrunch with a tiger feint kick and knocks down Jaka with a top rope dropkick. He unleashes a couple running forearms on Jaka before Smashmaster collides with Jaka (incidentally) in the corner. Jaka takes him overhead with a belly-to-belly suplex. Silver Ant rolls out. Jaka chops up Rage, who then takes Jaka over with a Northern Lights suplex. Rumblecrunch breaks the bridge. He spears Rage for a two count thanks to Frightmare. Rumblecrunch pummels Frightmare. Frightmare avoids a clothesline and drops Rumblecrunch with a neckbreaker. He hits Kneecolepsy. Smashmaster picks him up and tosses him outside the ring onto Rage. Silver Ant lights up Smashmaster with chops. Smashmaster shoves him to the corner. Silver Ant gets his feet up to block an attack and comes off the second rope with a diving DDT. Jaka throws a barrage of body shots. He misses the T’challa kick. Silver Ant throws his own kicks. After an uppercut he places Jaka on the top rope. Smashmaster distracts Bryce Remsburg so that Blaster McMassive can run in and drop Silver Ant with the Boss Man Slam. Jaka comes off the top with a splash for the pin at 11:37. The finish worked in this context, as the Wrecking Crew are known cheaters and the stakes going into this match were high. It also works in that Silver Ant took the fall, which after the pre-match promo makes him look like the outcast amongst a strong brotherhood. The match itself also had some strong action and showings from all competitors. I liked it. ***

Kevin Condron says today is Lucas Calhoun’s day to fly. The man he is scheduled to fight, Missile Assault Ant, is also somebody he wants to see fly high. He sees something better inside of him, just like he did Calhoun. Tonight, he wants Calhoun to rock the mic and the crowd like only he can, because he says Missile Assault Ant won’t want to fight him. If all goes according to plan, he will be leaving with Condron and company.

Lucas Calhoun vs. Missile Assault Ant

Kevin Condron and the Lithuanian Snow Troll are with Calhoun. Condron takes the microphone. He asks both men in the ring not to fight. He tells Missile Assault Antthat he is a man, not an ant. Condron says unlike everyone else who has tried to control Missile Assault Ant in the past, he genuinely cares about him. Condron says joining up with his crew can make Missile Assault Ant fly like the condor he is. The word condor sets Missile Assault Ant off, causing him to uppercut Condron. Calhoun goes to attack, but Condron holds him back. Missile Assault Ant leaves by himself. Condron tells the camera that it’s time to start taking action on his way to the back with Calhoun and the Troll.

Eddie Kingston vs. Drew Gulak

Eddie Kingston represents the Snake Pit while Drew Gulak represents The Gentleman’s Club. Kingston and Gulak are both apprehensive to lock-up. Kingston takes down Gulak in a double leg. Gulak gets to his feet first, with Kingston getting up when he’s certain Gulak won’t attack. Kingston twists Gulak’s hands in a double knuckle lock. Gulak breaks it and puts on a wristlock. Kingston throws slaps, but Gulak rolls him down to the mat while controlling the arms. He gets on a short arm scissors, but Kingston rolls to the floor. Gulak baseball slides into that arm. He does more damage to that arm by jamming it over his shoulder and twisting up Kingston’s arm in the ropes. Gulak puts on a top wristlock back in the ring and drives all his bodyweight on the shoulder. Kingston gets in a couple shots, but Gulak pulls down Kingston’s arm into his knees. Gulak rolls over Kingston’s leapfrog and sunset flips him for two. Gulak twists Kingston’s arm before driving it into the canvas. Kingston turns Gulak over and stomps on him. He whips Gulak to the corner. Gulak elbows Kingston to stop any follow up and comes off the second rope with a clothesline for two. He puts Kingston in a double wristlock. Kingston gets the ropes. Gulak headbutts Kingston in the stomach twice. Kingston lays in an enzuigiri. With his good arm he DDT’s Gulak for two. He facelock attempt is of no use. Kingston does however come off the second rope with a bulldog for another two count. Gulak from the apron jams Kingston’s arm over the top rope. He comes off the top with a dropkick for two. Gulak puts on a Kimura. Kingston rolls to the ropes for relief. Gulak ducks an enzuigiri.He puts Kingston in a Fujiwara armbar leading Kingston back to the ropes. Kingston’s Backfist doesn’t do much harm, and Gulak comes back with a rolling lariat for two. Gulak throws some shots to Kingston’s arm and head. Kingston hits a quick sit-out powerbomb to stop Gulak’s headbutts to the stomach. Gulak kicks out, so Kingston muscles him into a Northern Lights bomb for another two count. Another Backfist and a Backdrop Driver get Kingston the win at 13:13. It’s refreshing see these types of matches on a CHIKARA card, especially with two guys so good at mat wrestling and striking. I raise an eyebrow at Kingston using his arm and shoulder in his offense towards the ending stretch to win, especially when he has a multitude of submissions and the Sliding D in his arsenal. Despite that, they told a very good story and the crowd was engaged for the entirety of the bout. ***

Dasher’s Dugout (The Throwbacks (Dasher Hatfield & ‘Mr. Touchdown’ Mark Angelosetti) & Icarus) vs. Battle Hive (Amasis, Worker Ant & Ashley Remington)

Worker Ant cleanly breaks a lock-up with Icarus in the corner. He shoots Icarus to the ropes and shoulder blocks him down. Icarus takes him over with a headscissors. Worker Ant slams him. Remington is excited to watch the test of strength between Icarus and Worker Ant to the point where he wants to join in. This brings in the other members of the teams for a six person test of strength. All six of them almost collide into the referee, causing them to break and blame one another. Battle Hive send the Dugout to the floor with triple atomic drops. An exchange between team captains Amasis and Hatfield ends in a stalemate. Hatfield proposes a mid-match baseball game, which both teams are in favor. Things get ugly when Hatfield accidentally hits Amasis in the ribs with the invisible ball. To settle things, Amasis proposes a dance off. Hatfield dances like Dusty Rhodes, going for a bionic elbow to end which Amasis ducks. Amasis tries his own but Hatfield dodges. Angelosetti and Remington tag in. Angelosetti is frustrated by Remington’s crowd pleasing and finger guns. They lock-up and switch headlocks. Remington goes under a leapfrog and throws a finger gun at Angelosetti. Angelosetti bats his hand away and Remington goes for a German suplex. Angelosetti grabs the ropes. Remington breaks on 1. He ducks a punch, knees Angelosetti in the stomach, and then muscles him up in a waist and groin throw. Angelosetti catches Remington in the corner with multiple shoulder blocks. He throws a finger gun when Remington charges to cut him off. A second time he accidentally pokes Remington in the eye! Angelosetti seems to feel bad about it, but that moment is what Dasher’s Dugout uses to isolate Remington in their corner. A blind tag from Worker Ant leads to a six person headlock chain. Remington escapes and bulldogs Icarus, starting a domino effect with all men falling. Amasis throws a couple back elbows and a leg lariat to Hatfield. He and Worker Ant attack him in the corner. Worker Ant flapjacks him. Angelosetti hits the Flea Flicker on Worker Ant. Worker Ant rolls out to stop from being pinned. Remington German suplexes Angelosetti. Hatfield goes for a Jackhammer. Remington escapes, so Hatfield settles with an overhead throw. Amasis cracks him with a tornado kick. Icarus drops Amasis with the Shiranui. Worker Ant cracks Icarus with the GTS. Angelosetti breaks the cover. He and Worker Ant collide mid-ring with stereo clotheslines. All six men exchange jabs, then a six way bionic elbow takes everyone down. Angelosetti takes Worker Ant to the top rope and superplexes him for the pin at 18:11. Unlike the opening match, this was the right way to blend humor and wrestling. Everybody’s strengths were tapped into and the match was engaging. I’d like to see a Remington vs. Touchdown singles match some day. ***

The Snake Pit (Ophidian & Shynron) vs. The BDK (Jakob Hammermeier & Soldier Ant)

Despite Ophidian’s persistence, Soldier Ant absorbs his offense. Ophidian tosses him outside, bringing in Hammermeier with a sneak attack. Ophidian resists a whip across the ring. He flips in from the apron and back elbows Hammermeier against the ropes. Hammermeier responds in kind. Ophidian goes up top. Hammermeier tries throwing him off, but Ophidian rolls through and drops Hammermeier with the Duat Driver. He lands a headstand headbutt to the stomach. He sole butt kicks Hammermeier into a running shooting star press from Soldier Ant. Shynron pops up from Soldier Ant’s shoulder block. Shynron is able to get Soldier Ant to the floor and follows with a cartwheel plancha. Ophidian evades Hammermeier’s attack and takes him down with a trifecta of kicks. Ophidian goes for another headstand headbutt, but Hammermeier drives him face first into the canvas. Soldier Ant takes out Shynron so he and Hammermeier can isolate Ophidian in their half of the ring. Ophidian escapes when he turns a suplex from Soldier Ant into a Death Grip attempt. He turns it into a reverse prawn hold. When Soldier Ant kicks out, it sends Ophidian into the corner where he tags in Shynron. Shynron hops over Soldier Ant and cartwheel Pele kicks Hammermeier off the apron. He headscissors Soldier Ant and hits a standing Spanish Fly. He sends Soldier Ant to the floor with a Shoruken. Hammermeier tries a spin-out stunner. Shynron escapes and knocks Hammermeier down. He hits a middle rope 450 splash. Soldier Ant breaks the pin. Ophidian drives his knee into Hammermeier in the corner. Shynron lands a coast-to-coast dropkick before Ophidian drives his knees into him a second time. Soldier Ant breaks up the pin. He gives Shynron a Northern Lights Bomb for two. Ophidian chops up Soldier Ant in the corner. Hammermeier punches Ophidian in the back of the head. Shynron drags Soldier Ant out as Hammermeier gives Ophidian a Death Valley neckbreaker across his knee brace for two. Hammermeier ducks some offense from the Snake Pit, but falls to Shynron’s back handspring Ace Crusher for the pin at 11:36 (while Ophidian disposes Soldier Ant with his own Ace Crusher). Shynron’s flawless aerial offense was breathtaking in this match. The fluidity in which he moves is a sight to behold. He and Ophidian make for great partners, and because of that, I like that this win (along with Kingston’s) helped accelerate the Snake Pit up the COTI chart in just one night. In my mind, they’re a misfit team that has made their unnatural partnership work. Hammermeier played his role well. Soldier Ant was sadly just kinda there. **¾

Hallowicked vs. Oleg the Usurper

This is a rematch from “Altar Egos.” Frightmare and Blind Rage are in Hallowicked’s corner. Hallowicked hits the floor after Oleg shoulder blocks him down. Hallowicked takes a second when he re-enters the ring. He catches Hallowicked with a rib breaker. Oleg picks up speed hitting the ropes and splashes Hallowicked in the corner. Hallowicked drops down the top rope to send Oleg outside. Hallowicked attempts a suicide dive which Oleg blocks with his forearms. Oleg looks for a chokeslam from the ring apron. Hallowicked fights out and gives Oleg Go 2 Sleepy Hollow with Oleg falling to the floor! Rage tosses Oleg back into the ring, earning Hallowicked a two count. He snapmares Oleg into a knee strike to the back. Hallowicked snaps his ankle. He forearms Oleg in the neck. Oleg shoves him to the ropes and gives him a backbreaker. He looks for Off With His Head! Hallowicked gets some shots into Oleg’s stomach to stop him, then chokes him with a boot. Another snapmare leads to Hallowicked putting Oleg in a grounded abdominal stretch. Oleg splashes Hallowicked in the corner upon escaping. He runs to the other corner, but Hallowicked follows in with a step-up enzuigiri. He places Oleg up top and super snapmares him for two. A Swanton Bomb yields the same result. They block one another’s big boots, then big boot one another at the same time. They trade forearms once back to their feet. Oleg splashes Hallowicked against the ropes. He spins Hallowicked out into an Air Raid Crash across the knee for two. Hallowicked looks for Go 2 Sleepy Hollow. Oleg slides off his shoulders. The Usurper kick and a rolling senton get Oleg a two count. He calls for Off With His Head! once again. Hallowicked counters with a Rydeen Bomb. Oleg kicks out. Hallowicked goes for another super snapmare. Oleg hits Off With His Head! but Hallowicked wisely rolls to the floor. Oleg follows him with a rolling senton off the ring apron. Oleg takes Hallowicked back to the top rope for a super chokeslam. Hallowicked kicks out just in time. Oleg misses a corner attack. Hallowicked hits two step-up enzuigiri’s. Oleg splashes Hallowicked against the ropes. Hallowicked responds with three consecutive yakuza kicks and gets the win at 11:51. This was similar to their original match, but with higher stakes it was more intriguing. They upped the risk of the offense too, and despite few thinking Oleg would win, they did a good job building drama in the final minutes of the bout. ***¼

Like last night’s Chicago show, the fans ask for and receive an encore match.

Fire Ant & N_R_G (Race Jaxon & Hype Rockwell) vs. Juan Francisco de Coronado & The Bloc Party (The Proletariat Boar of Moldova & Prakash Sabar)

A six person scuffle starts off the bout. N_R_G fight the Bloc Party on the floor while Fire Ant chops up Coronado in the corner. Coronado puts on his robe in the hopes of softening the chops’ effect. Fire Ant baits Coronado into a false sense of security and chops his exposed chest. Boar gives Fire Ant a strike to the throat and tosses him out. Jaxon dropkicks Boar. He misses a corner splash. He boots Boar away and comes off the second rope with a dropkick. Sabar throws some kicks to Jaxon. Rockwell comes in for a tandem flapjack on Sabar. Boar clothesline both of N_R_G. He catches Fire Ant’s crossbody attempt and slams him. The Bloc Party beat down Fire Ant. Jaxon is kicked off the apron in the process. Rockwell falls asleep. The other team notices and wants to keep things quiet. Fire Ant sends Boar and Coronado to the floor. Sabar kicks him down and looks for a Bronco Buster. Jaxon wakes up Rockwell and gives him an energy drink. Rockwell tags in and runs roughshod on the United Nations. He gives Sabar a spinebuster and the Boar a spinning slam. He hip tosses all three of them twice. He squishes the Bloc Party at the same time with a cannonball senton. Coronado stops a stereo dive from N_R_G. Jaxon hops off of Rockwell, over Coronado, and onto Sabar and Boar outside. Rockwell rolls up Coronado for two. Coronado avoids an attack, so Rockwell tope con hilo’s onto Boar and Sabar. Fire Ant high crossbody’s onto Coronado and hits the Yahtzee Kick. A brainbuster gets him the pin at 7:26. Rockwell’s comeback was really strong, but other than that this was akin to a post main event dark match: fun, yet inconsequential, and way better live than on tape. **

This was a fine follow up from Chicago, but not nearly as consistent a show, nor a crowd that is as hot as the night before. There's some interesting storyline elements and solid enough matches to be sure, including a nice surprise in Kingston vs. Gulak, but this is a comfortable pass unless you're firmly entrenched in the company already and thus watching this show anyways.
