411’s NXT Report 3.05.15

March 5, 2015 | Posted by Kevin Pantoja

I’d like to apologize right off the bat. I had this written up last night while watching the show and it ended up getting deleted. I’ve taken measures to make sure it doesn’t happen again in the future. I will actually be at NXT live in Columbus and Cleveland tonight and tomorrow, and I’m leaving early but I wanted to post some sort of report. So again, I apologize if this is shorter than expected. We will be back to a normal report next week.

After a video package highlighting Kevin Owens and his attack on Alex Riley last week, Riley is in William Regal’s office. He wants a piece of Owens but Regal tells him that he can’t be a commentator and wrestler and he has to choose one.

Adam Rose vs. Tyler Breeze

Our opening contest is the first of multiple short matches tonight. Adam Rose is back in NXT, where he had mild success, but was here as an enhancement talent. They spend most of the match doing antics as Rose was playful and Breeze was arrogant. Rose gets in most of the offense but falls victim to the Beauty Shot.

Winner: Tyler Breeze in 2:37Relatively basic stuff. It was just used to get Tyler Breeze a win. Post match, he uses the selfie stick to back off the uggos in the Exotic Express.

Enzo Amore and Big Cass are interviewed about what Blake and Murphy said about Carmella last week. It was serious but still filled with the charisma that makes Enzo and Cass so likeable. Carmella…not so much. After commercial, Alexa Bliss is interviewed as she’s coming back from injury. She puts over the main event and says that she’s coming for Sasha Banks because it was Sasha who injured her.

Non-Title Match: NXT Tag Team Champions Blake and Murphy vs. Angelo Dawkins and Sawyer Fulton

For those that know nothing of the live events that NXT runs, Angelo Dawkins and Sawyer Fulton are part of a stable known as “Shoot Nation”. They play the role of amateur wrestlers and Fulton is sporting the Rick Steiner headgear. They actually impress here and look pretty huge next to the champions. Blake and Murphy do get in their stuff and finish with their running suplex/frog splash combination.

Winners: Blake and Murphy in 2:18

Enjoyable little tag team match. I see potential in Shoot Nation. My only gripe is that it seems like Blake and Murphy went from cutting a heel promo last week, to working like faces here.

Backstage, Bayley tries to wish Charlotte good luck tonight but she’s a bitch so she gets pissy. Emma appears and doesn’t want to use the bubble machine, which surprises Bayley. Emma basically says that being nice and playful got her nowhere on the main roster and it’s something Bayley should think about. Good segment as it furthered Emma becoming more serious and the slow burn towards what I hope is a Bayley Women’s Title run.

A video package hyping Rhyno’s arrival in NXT airs.

Baron Corbin vs. Tony Briggs

Because Tony Briggs looks kind of like a pudgy Brock Lesnar, we get “Let’s go Lesnar” chants. This lasts longer than I expected but it is mainly so the camera can focus on Kevin Owens appearing behind Alex Riley to cause trouble. End of Days ends this.

Winner: Baron Corbin on 0:53

More used to focus on the Riley/Owens stuff. This was about two moves long. NO RATING

Kevin Owens steals Alex Riley’s water and drinks some before pouring the rest on him. Jason Albert holds Riley back as Owens calmly walks away.

Sami Zayn cuts a promo from his hometown of Montreal. He mentions that the landscape of NXT has changed quickly without him. It’s pre-recorded from March 1st, which marks the 13th anniversary of his start in wrestling. He says that he’s clearing his head before returning after what happened at Rival.

CJ Parker is complaining to William Regal about Solomon Crowe attacking him last week. Alex Riley barges in and demands to be a wrestler again. Parker laughs and says that Owens will kill him and mentions that he’s the only one to even hurt Owens at this point. Riley won’t get Owens until Regal deems him ready, so next week he gets Parker. CJ is super underappreciated.

Bull Dempsey vs. Solomon Crowe

Much like his match last week against Hideo Itami, Bull Dempsey gets in a fair amount of offense here. He gets in more stuff than pretty much any other enhancement guy I’ve ever seen. They do the “small guy tries to slam big guy” spot that ends with Bull flattening Crowe. He even goes for his finisher but misses. Crowe rallies and wins with his lame rebound headbutt finisher. It might be the worst in history.

Winner: Solomon Crowe in 3:22ish (stopwatch issues)

Bull Dempsey got in most of the offense here. It probably wasn’t the best idea for Crowe’s TV debut because he didn’t look great. *

NXT Women’s Championship: Sasha Banks (c) vs. Charlotte

The three singles matches that I’ve seen between these two have all been damn good. Sasha avoids Charlotte early and even does the classic heel spot where they try to leave with the belt and take a countout. Charlotte obviously stops her. Then things pick up. These girls play into their past matches with each one knowing the other too well. Charlotte tries her moonsault but Sasha moves and then gets her knees up when Charlotte tries a front flip. They use the ring post as Sasha pulls her on it from the outside to work the ribs. Charlotte comes back later with the ring post figure four. Charlotte gets two on a spear that brings “Better than Reigns” chant. Charlotte tries a top rope Natural Selection, which was how she won at R-Evolution, but Sasha holds the ropes to block it. She covers with her feet on the ropes to retain.

Winner and Still NXT Women’s Champion: Sasha Banks in 11:27

Fantastic match. These girls have incredible chemistry and played off their past matches extremely well. Once again, the women of NXT steal the show. ***¾
