411’s WWE NXT Takeover II Report 9.11.14

The show opens with…

Kalisto and Sin Cara vs. The Ascension

Viktor and Sin Cara start out. Cara frustrates early with aerial offense including a swank little standing moonsault before Konnor distracts him on the apron and Victor knocks him to the outside. Konnor in and he delivers some punishment at ringside. Back in the ring, Konnor dominates with boots in the corner, then tags in Viktor. He works over Cara with a double chickenwing. Cara threatens to power out and Viktor pushes him to the mat. Victor sets up for a powerbomb, Cara counters with a hurricanrana. Hot tag? Not yet. Konnor gets the tag and knocks down Kalisto from the apron. When Cara goes for the tag, there’s no one there. Konnor works over Cara, but the masked man counters with kicks and nice little enzuguri from the mat. Konnor does a nice job of cutting the mat and bulling Cara back to his corner. Nice tag psychology but Cara makes it over anyway. Kalisto explodes into the ring with a flurry of aerial offense. Sin Cara wit ha dive to the outside to Konnor. Kalisto sends Viktor out of after them. Kalisto goes for a crossbody to the outside but gets caught. The Ascension throws him but he lands on his feet. Cara with a dive to both members of The Ascension!. Back on in the ring, Kalisto goes for a springboard moonsault, duck and a clothesline. Set up for the Fall of Man, but Cara runs interference to disrupt the sequence. Kalisto nails Samuray del Sol! 1-2-3. New champions!

OFFICIAL RESULT: Kalisto and Sin Cara @ 7:43 via pin

Next up we have…

CJ Parker vs. Baron Corbin

Renee Young calls Parker a walking Hot Topic t-shirt. Corbin muscles Parker to the corner, floors him with a right hand, then nails him with something like a reverse Rock Bottom to complete the squash.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Baron Corbin @ roughly :30 via pin

Here comes…

Enzo Amore vs. Sylvester Lefort

It’s time for the Hair vs. Hair Match. Lefort has Marcus Louis with him; Amore has Cassady. Amore and Cass cut a promo to start. Lockup to start. The two trade headlocks in the early going. Amore with a roll up. Lefort takes over with forearm shots before Amore catches him with a dropkick. Lefort tries to take a powder. Amore grabs him by the beard, and Amore drops his throat over the top rope to take over. Plodding offense—Lefort seems to be killing time and Amore seems to be selling exhaustion a little early. Amore fights back with punches. Louis gets on the apron distract Amore and Lefort catches him with a clothesline for the two-count. Louis gets on the apron again and Cassady takes him out. Amore catches him with roll up for the win. Sloppy and slow, but this one looks to be much more about charisma than work rate, and the fans are getting what they want. It’s haircut time.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Enzo Amore @ 5:50 via pin

Amore and Cass try to get Lefort to the chair, but he runs. Just as they get their hands on him, Louis makes the save. Lefort bolts and the guys beat down Louis. They dump the bucket on him and flees the stage. I suppose this feud must continue.

KENTA is here!

William Regal presents a video package, recapping Hulk Hogan announcing KENTA signing with NXT, before bringing out the man himself. KENTA is here in a suit and tie. Regal congratulates him on making it NXT. KENTA says hello in English, then continues the promo in Japanese, before telling the crowd that this is a dream come true and that he’s happy to in WWE and on NXT. He says that as a tribute to one of his heroes he will be known and Hideo Itami. His goal is to be NXT champion.

Cue The Ascension.

Konnor and Victor storm the ring and toss KENTA to the outside. They proclaim that they’re in a bad mood and demand that William Regal give them a rematch. KENTA is back, takes the jacket off and loosens the tie. Yakuza kick! Roundhouse kick! He knocks both men from the ring. The Ascension gets back on the apron and KENTA delivers a double dropkick to send them back to the mats. KENTA grabs a chair—not to fight them, but to have a seat and invite Konnor and Victor to try him again. They back down.

Mojo Rawley vs. Bull Dempsey

Wild brawl to begin—befitting a grudge match. Rawley gets a flurry of offense, but Dempsey knocks him down then connects with a top rope headbutt for the pin.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Bull Dempsey @ 1:05 via pin

Dempsey hits the headbutt again, just to be a jerk.

Amore and Cassady walk backstage. Amore is frustrated he hasn’t seen anyone bald. They stumble upon The Legionnaires and carry Louis back to the ring where they reveal his mostly bald head. Amore describes Louis as B-A-W-L-D.

Next…

Bayley vs. Charlotte

Charlotte talks smack. Bayley rams Charlotte into the corner and goes to work with shoulders. Charlotte takes over from there with a couple chops and a WOOOO! Bayley goes for a backslide and Charlotte powers out into a nice modified neckbreaker. Charlotte locks in the figure four headlock. Bayley aims to bridge out into a pin, but Charlotte powers her back down. Bayley tries again and Charlotte has to break the hold to kick out. Charlotte grinds Bayleys face into the mat. The two trade chops, and Charlotte gets the better of it. Back to the figure four headlock into a nice rolling slam with the hold on—pretty cool bit of offense. Charlotte tries for a pin, Bayley reverses it. Series of counters and Charlotte goes for the figure four, which Bayley counters with an inside cradle. Charlotte goes for a slam and Bayley comes out the back and gets another roll up. Charlotte maintains control, though, and talks some more smack. The two trade forearm shots, then it’s Bayley with a flurry. She misses a charge into the corner ,goes for kicks and Charlotte pulls her down, back of the head first to the mat. Charlotte goes up top for a moonsault but Bayley cuts her off. Bayley with a slap of the face followed by a top rope hurricanrana! Two count. Bayley goes for a belly to belly but Charlotte counters with a swank roll up, then snaps the back of Bayley’s head into the bottom turnbuckle. Top rope moonsault by Charlotte! Two count! Charlotte is pissed. Natural selection by Charlotte and that is all.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Charlotte @ 10:44 via pin

Sasha Banks is out and lays the badmouth, then the beat down on Bayley. Charlotte looks conflicted and finally returns to the ring to pull Banks off Bayley. Charlotte stands tall in the ring and looks at each of the women. Banks backs down and leaves the ring while Charlotte holds the belt high. Face turn and/or triple threat program ahead?

It’s main event time and there’s a half hour left in the show. This oughta be good.

Adrian Neville vs. Sami Zayn vs. Tyson Kidd vs. Tyler Breeze

The announce team makes clear that this match is one fall to a finish, only a pinfall or submission can end it, and that the champion need not be involved in the decision. Super special ring announcing before the match kicks off.

Awkward slow opening as the guys seek to feel out one another, before things break down into two separate brawls—Neville vs. Kidd, Zayn vs. Breeze. Both fights spill outside before long. Neville and Zayn get the best of their respective matchups and look set to square off before the heels go back in and jump their respective rivals. The action spills outside again. Zayn gets a hold of Breeze’s smart phone, hits him with it, takes a selfie, and gives the phone a toss.

Zayn gets a Koji Clutch on Kidd in the ring. Breeze breaks it up. The brawling continues. Kidd and Breeze hit a double suplex on Neville on the stage. Zayn and Breeze brawl and Kidd interjects himself so they can hit a double suplex on Zayn on the ramp. Kidd and Breeze roll Zayn in to the ring and continue to double team him. They use Zayn as a battering ram to knock Neville from the apron. The punishment continues inside the ring. Neville tries to get in again, and Breeze knocks him back to the floor at ringside. Breeze goes for a pin on Zayn and Kidd peels him off. The dissension begins. Kidd superkicks Breeze and goes to work on Zayn, one-on-one. Neville gest through the ropes but Kidd tosses him to the outside once more. I like the ongoing storyline of Neville continuing to get up no matter how many times he’s knocked down, and featuring Zayn for the heat segment of the match is shrewd, but I’m having to suspend my disbelief that Neville (not to mention Breeze) are knocked out of the action for so long.

Kidd nails Neville with a stiff kick from the apron to more believably keep him out for a bit. Good psychology from Kidd, applying a chinlock and surveying the ring while he has it on, wary of Neville or Breeze coming back. Neville comes back and—yes, he gets some offense! Kidd down. Breeze is back in and dispose so f Neville, but Zayn gets the better of him. Zayn bounces off the ropes to set up for a dive but Neville cuts him off and hits a springboard moonsault off the top rope onto the heels outside. Neville gets up and stares down Zayn in the ring. Zayne takes off his elbow pads and the two go to war.

Neville gets the better f the exchange early on. He looks to be going for something loike a victory roll but falls off the back—that looked like a botched spot. Kidd gets in and teases a superplex. Breeze best interrupts the sequence. Kidd slingshots Zayn into Neville in the corner to knock him outside. Kidd and Zayn square off. Kidd looks for the sharpshooter but Kidd keeps on countering, Breeze in and he takes out Kidd with the Beauty Shot. Then Neville. Two count. Breeze is livid. Breeze goes for a superplex on Neville, Kidd joins him for a double superplex. Zayn gets on bottom for the tower of doom spot. Nicely done. Zayn drapes an arm over Kidd, but can only get two. Everyone is down.

Zayn and Kidd square off and Zayn gets the better of it. Zayn charges Neville, who gets a foot up in the corner, then climbs up to the top turnbuckles. Neville with a shooting star press on Zayn. Breeze immediately tosses Neville from the ring and tries to steal the pin on Zayn—one-two-kickout! Breze goes for the beauty shot but Zayn ducks and it feeds directly into Kidd’s sharpshooter on Breeze. Breeze is about to tap but Neville blocks his arm. Zayn breaks up the sharpshooter.

Stand off between Zayn and Neville, trading right hands, then Neville scores with a spinning back kick to the midsection. Kidd charges Zayn and gets an exploder suplex for his troubles. Zabynedives onto Neville outside. Zayne jumps between the rupes to catch Breeze with a tornado DDT outside. Zayn with a Yakuz kick on Kidd for two, but Neville pulls out the ref before he can register a three count. Zayne is pissed at Zayn and goes outside—he eats a superkick from Neville. Neville with The Red Arrow on Kidd! Zayn scratches and claws to try to break up the pin but he’s too late. Neville retains.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Adrian Neville @ 24:08 via pin

Slow, awkward start to the match and some questionable psychology in the first half, but when the action got fast and furious, the match grew pretty excellent. The way in which Neville broke up Zayn’s pin at the end and stole the fall over Kidd wasn’t against the rules, but felt a bit heelish and I smell a turn ahead. Regardless, the match itself wound up being a more than worthy main event to cap another entertaining NXT special.
