WWE MAIN EVENT 12.16.14

The Tag Team Champions: Miz and Damien Mizdow greet us tonight as we start with Miz TV. “Ladies and gentleman, I’m glad you have an opportunity to see Miz TV tonight. My guest tonight is one of the most dynamic divas and my close personal friend the talented…Naomi!” He welcomes Naomi to Miz TV. Naomi responds, “Look Miz, I’m always glad to be here on main event in front of the WWE universe. She says as far as you and I being friends…you must be dreaming. I’m using tonight as a platform to tell you, I see straight through your phony opportunities.” Miz says many guys tell her lies because she is a beautiful woman. Naomi says Miz hasn’t come through on any of his promises. Miz says his phony opportunities will lead to a Divas Championship match on Smackdown tonight! Miz says he is serious. Jimmy comes out pissed off. Miz says Jimmy is ruining his wife’s moment. Jimmy asks Miz to listen and look. He says Naomi has all the support she needs right here. Miz tells Naomi she is supremely talented and he just wants to see her succeed.

Apparently, the title match will take place tonight on Smackdown so Miz really did her a title match in story-line context. Later tonight Erick Rowan will face Kane. We go to a commercial break.

The New Day(Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston) with Big E vs. Cesaro and Tyson Kidd with Natalya
Cesaro says Tyson and Cesaro are all about positivity in a pre match promo. Tyson says they have the best support system in his corner and looks to Nattie then Cesaro, “Each other.” Big E flirts with Natalya outside the ring. Cesaro quicklyt wrestles Xavier down to the ground. Cesaro works the arm with a wrenching arm ringer before transitioning to some hard knees. Xaiver fights out and hits a wheelbarrow facebuster for a 1. Xavier makes a tag and Kofi hits a cross body. Both Tyson and Cesaro double team Kofi. That continues until he makes a tag to Xavier. Tyson and Xaiver trade arm ringers leading to a few Tyson elbows. Xavier ducks a Tyson charge and lays him out with a dropkick. Xavier makes another tag that leads to a shoulder thrust and cross body. 1..2..kickout. Tyson starts to fight back and ducks Trouble in Paradise. Kofi throws Tyson to the outside. Tyson and Xaiver then hit leaping sentons over the rope onto both men! Kofi tags for a 1 count. Cesaro distracts Xavier and Tyson hits a leaping kick to the head of Kofi. We depart for a commercial break.

Triple H has his own workout series apparently and we see a commercial for it. As we return, the crowd is coming alive for Kofi. Tyson stuffs Kofi in the corner leaving him in tree of woe. Tyson stops attacking yelling at Natalya. Cesaro takes advantage choking Kofi and Cesaro chastises her too for not choking Kofi. Cesaro is tagged in and pounds Kofi down for a 1. Cesaro grounds Kofi in a full nelson from the face front lock position. Kofi slowly fights out and tries to crawl under Cesaro who catches him. Cesaro throws him around hitting a gutbuster slam. Tyson is tagged back in and pulls the leg of Kofi. Tyson taunts Xavier before hitting a running back elbow. Tyson keeps him down with a front face lock. He continues the attack pushing Kofi into a corner and making a tag to Cesaro. Cesaro stomps Kofi into the corner leading to another tag. Tyson is tagged back in and chokes Kofi with his boot. They again keep the advantage making another tag. Kofi hits an elbow on Tyson and some punches on Cesaro. Cesaro quickly kicks Xavier off the apron. Cesaro gets the Giant Swing on Kofi and a Tyson dropkick the head. 1..2..pin broken up. Another double team leaves Kofi down for a close 2! Kofi kicks Cesaro in the face on a rebound and slowly crawls towards Xavier. Both men make tags and Xavier hits a few leaping forearms and a front dropkick on Tyson. Xavier plays to the crowd and ducks Cesaro hitting an Enzuigiri. Tyson rolls up the tights off Xavier. 1..2..kickout. Xavier hits his own roll-up! 1..2..kickout. Tyson hits the crucifix pin! 1..2..kickout. Xaiver lifts him reversing it into a slam dropped to the knees. 1..2..broken up. Cesaro breaks it up and powerbombs Kofi to the outside but its reversed. Kofi is tagged back in and they hit The New Day decapitation (backbreaker double foot stomp combination). 1..2..3!!

MATCH THOUGHTS: This was an awesome way to start the show. A great match that makes Main Event worthwhile! Tyson Kidd and Cesaro were awesome heels throughout the match, and the action was fantastic.

Paige is backstage playing chess with Erick Rowan. Titus O’Neil asks Paige what she is doing with Rowan. Titus says Rowan doesn’t know anything about Chess. Titus says he is a college graduate and booksmart and street smart. Rowan challenges Titus to Chess. Titus seems hesitant. Titus moves a pawn and demands to be kinged. Paige questions if Titus even knows how to play. Paige hands Rowan a piece and says checkmate. This was an interesting interaction to say the least.

We get a Raw Recap of the awesome moment between Paul Heyman and Chris Jericho. Brock Lesnar lay outs Chris Jericho. We then transition to Rollins cage match with Cena. Both men are down when Lesnar enters and german suplexes Cena into oblivion. He ends it with the F-5. Seth Rollins finishes Cena with a curb stomp and escapes the cage winning the match.

Naomi is walking backstage when she encounters Miz and Mizdow. Naomi apologizes for earlier. Miz understands that she is in a difficult position. Miz tells her that Jimmy must be restrained or Hollywood will not come.

Emma vs. Paige
Paige and Emma circle but Paige seems annoyed with Emma’s dancing. Emma tries the dance and ducks some Paige punches. They run around and Emma trips Paige. Emma slaps her in the face. That pisses off Paige who Yakuza Kicks her down. Paige hits a headbutt on Emma and throws her onto the apron for the knee attack. 1..2..kickout. Paige keeps her down with a surfboard stretch using her knee. Emma slowly fights out, but Paige pulls her hair down dropping her. Paige tries to taunt the crowd, and they cheer her. Paige throws Emma to a corner and hits the back elbows. Emma fights back with knees and an elbow. The crowd chants let’s go for both ladies. Paige yells let’s go Paige at the crowd. Paige lifts Emma going for the paige-turner that is reversed into a small package. 1..2..kickout. Paige admonishes the crowd for cheering for Emma. The crowd continues both chants. Paige stomps Emma into a corner and demands that the referee get Emma off her in a nice heel move. Emma finally fights back with some forearms and a hard whip. Emma hits a back elbow and follows up with the Tarantula. She lets go at 3 and runs the ropes hitting a front dropkick to the head. 1..2..kickout. Emma goes for an indian deathlock. Paige gets the ropes and quickly catches Emma in the PTO. Emma taps out quickly.

MATCH THOUGHTS: This was a fun match and good. The divas have good matches when given over 3 minutes, what a surprise. Nonetheless, this was fun because Paige interacted with the crowd and kept them in. The work within the match was great too.

Erick Rowan vs. Kane is next. Tomorrow night Bray Wyatt will face Dean Ambrose in a boot camp match! Titus O’Neil joins the announce team. Titus gives Saxton a decent gift, but brings Cole what appears to be the broken keyboard of a phone.

Erick Rowan vs. “Corporate” Kane
Rowan quickly corners Kane and pounds him into a corner. Kane kicks Rowan in the midsection, but runs right into a clothesline. Rowan catches him in a side headlock. Rowan charges Kane. Kane is sent flying to the outside of the ring. Rowan tosses Kane around the barricades. Rowan grabs Kane and drives his head into the post. Rowan lifts Kane with a scoop slam and running elbow. Rowan stomps Kane’s foot. They run the ropes and Kane hits the running DDT. 1..2..kickout. Kane takes advantage stomping Rowan down and raking the bread. Kane chokes Rowan on the ropes. Kane covers Rowan for 1. Titus is great at the announce table, I must admit. Rowan fights out of a headlock. Rowan and Kane jockey for position on a suplex and Rowan wins hitting a snap suplex. Rowan runs towards Kane who clotheslines him down. Kane gets a hard whip on Rowan for 1! Rowan slowly fights back against Kane who knees him. Kane charges Rowan who hits a nice full nelson slam. Both men recover slowly. Titus refers to Rowan as swamp booty. Rowan seems fired up and keeps knocking Kane to the ground. Rowan hits a corner avalanche and a running shoulderblock. Kane uses the bread to drape Rowan’s throat on the ropes. Kane goes up top and Rowan hits a running dropkick!! Rowan slowly climbs the ropes going for a superplex. Kane pushes him off and hits the diving clothesline. Kane calls for the chokeslam, yet Rowan fights out. They trade strikes and Rowan hits the spin kick. Kane and Rowan fight on the outside. Rowan ruins Titus’ gifts. Titus says he’ll send the bill to Rowan. Rowan is distracted and Kane hits him with a chokeslam. 1..2..3!

MATCH THOUGHTS: The match was okay and Rowan pulled off a few surprise moves. Titus channeled his inner Stevie Ray on commentary which made the commentary livelier. Rowan keeps improving in the ring and it shows. I’m not sure why Kane needed the victory, but I guess they will be pushing a Titus and Rowan feud.

FINAL THOUGHTS: This was a good episode of Main Event tonight. All the matches were entertaining and the opening match was awesome. Titus O’Neil entertained me more than he ever has on commentary. Rowan continues to improve in the ring as well. Paige and Emma had a fun match too. Thank you to all who read the recap!
