411’s WWE NXT Report 12.25.14

December 25, 2014 | Posted by Kevin Pantoja

Merry Christmas everyone! The show is different tonight as it’s going to be focused on highlights mostly. Renee Young and Corey Graves are in the empty NXT Arena. They hype an NXT Women’s Championship rematch from TakeOver: R Evolution between Sasha Banks and Charlotte tonight. They go over some of the success stories from NXT, Paige and Rusev. We are taken to the “Best of NXT ArRival” which was a damn good show. Next, we move to a small video package of Adrian Neville visiting his hometown of Newcastle, England during a recent WWE Tour. He even surprises his mom, how sweet!

Tyler Breeze appears to tell all of the “wannaBreeze” Merry Christmas and that he will be back in 2015 to win some gold. Now, we move to highlights of Sami Zayn winning the NXT Championship two weeks ago at TakeOver: R Evolution before Kevin Owens attacked him. After a commercial, we get a wwe.com Exclusive showing Curtis Axel talking to William Regal in his office. Axel wants to get noticed like the NXT guys, so he wants in. Regal wants to give him a shot but he doesn’t have the time available for Curtis right now. I’d be interested in seeing him get some run down here. Could do wonders for him like it did for Tyson Kidd.

After a great video package that highlights both the Lucha Dragons and the Vaudevillains, we go to highlights of their NXT Tag Team Championship match from two weeks ago. Simon Gotch was pinned but wasn’t the legal man, leading to a rematch soon. Another rematch from R Evolution is announced as next week, the Ascension will face Hideo Itami and Finn Balor again. We see an interview earlier this week with Finn and Hideo. Finn is rocking his new shirt, which I actually just ordered. Another video package airs for the NXT guys who have debuted this year and made an impact. It features Baron Corbin, Bull Dempsey, Hideo Itami, Finn Balor and Kevin Owens. I’d like to point out that Itami, Balor and Owens all got some badass theme music. Owens is interviewed, saying that he took out the last two NXT Champions and put them in the hospital within seven days. Now we move to a video package featuring those NXT stars to make it to the main roster this year. Paige, Bo Dallas, Emma, Summer Rae, Adam Rose and Rusev are chronicled. Rich Brennan interviews Bayley as she watches Triple H’s DVD. I’m sure it was on the WWE Network and not just the DVD. She wants to come back just like Triple H did, although his was a quad injury.

NXT Women’s Championship: Charlotte (c) w/ Ric Flair vs. Sasha Banks w/ Becky Lynch

At TakeOver: R Evolution, these two girls put on the best women’s match of the year. Ric Flair gives his daughter a hyped up introduction. Right at the bell, Sasha charges like a rabid dog. Charlotte shoves her off and goes for the knee before hitting a spinebuster like slam. She continues to work the knee, wrapping it around the ring post. Sasha kicks her to stop it as we go to commercial. Returning, Sasha has turned her attention to Charlotte’s leg as well. She drives her knees into Charlotte’s mid-section in the corner for two. Commentary brings up Sasha’s great performance in Madison Square Garden during a recent WWE Tour. Sasha applies a nice stranglehold submission, but Charlotte uses her power advantage to get to her feet and break it with a backpack stunner. She rallies, hitting Sasha with some chops, which suck for a girl whose last name is Flair. She goes for a suplex, but stops it an uses a neckbreaker instead to win. Sasha moves out of the way of a knee drop and gets two with a backslide. She gets another near fall with a neckbreaker of her own, and it looks like Sasha’s lip is busted. Bank Statement is locked in! She is too close to the ropes too and reaches them, but man, Sasha had that reared back HARD! Charlotte rolls outside so Sasha tries a suicide dive, but Charlotte catches her on her way out with a right hand. She goes up top, but Sasha stops her and hits a second rope suplex for a close near fall! They get up and Charlotte rebounds of fthe ropes, hitting a wheelbarrow slam. She tries the Figure Four but Sasha pulls her into a small package. Charlote kicks out, but holds onto the move, using a bridge with it to get Sasha to tap.

Winner and Still NXT Women’s Champion: Charlotte in 8:04

Those two girls have great chemistry and put on another damn good match. I really wish that Sasha would get the title because I consider her to be better than Charlotte, but still, this was fun. ***1/4

I won’t give this episode an official score since it was mostly recaps, but it was fun. NXT has had an amazing year and it was nice to look back on it. The one match we got was great too, so all in all, a good show.
