411’s WWE NXT Report 2.10.16

February 10, 2016 | Posted by Kevin Pantoja

Welcome to another NXT report! Tonight, NXT airs from the CFE Arena in Orlando, Florida.

The opening video package focuses on the Baymella friendship as they collide for the NXT Women’s Championship tonight.

Baron Corbin vs. Johnny Gargano

The bigger arena setup looks nice as always. Gargano worked these tapings, then drove immediately to Evolve 53 to work that event. Corbin shrugs off the “Johnny Wrestling” chants. Gargano lays into Corbin but he shrugs it off and tosses him into the corner He goes for a sunset flip like rollup before firing away with lefts in the corner. Corbin shoves him off and hits a big right hand. Corbin starts to wear down Gargano before throwing him into the corner for an HBK like bump. Corbin stomps away in the corner. At this point, my stream starts acting funny and I have to restart it so I missed some of the action. Corbin picks up Gargano’s seemingly lifeless body only to eat a superkick. The crowd bites on the near fall and Corbin sells it great, by struggling to stand outside. Gargano pounces, following Corbin inside, but running into the End of Days.

Winner: Baron Corbin (stopwatch issues, about 5 minutes or so maybe)

From what I could see, this was pretty good. I can’t give it an official score due to missing some parts.

A recap airs of the finish to the Joe/Zayn/Corbin match two weeks ago. This leads to Rich Brennan interviewing Sami Zayn. Sami feels like he won the match, but understands William Regal’s decision. Next week, he meets Joe and it’ll be their first one on one encounter.

Another heel Vaudevillains vignette is shown.

The Hype Bros vs. Corey Hollis and John Skyler

I’m unsure if I got the names of the jobbers right. Commentary mentions that the Hype Bros suffered their first tag loss recently. Ryder starts off and nails a dropkick.. Quick tag to Mojo, who whips Zack into the jobber for a clothesline. Ryder then sends him into Mojo for a clothesline. HE AINT HYPE! Skyler runs in only to get hip tossed and then Mojo clotheslines them both over. He sends Ryder into them with a baseball slide variation. Hollis catches Ryder with a knee strike before tagging Skyler. They stomp on him in the corner and work some quick tags. Ryder gets his knees up on a charging jobber and makes the mild tag. Mojo delivers a bunch of shoulder blocks and a corner splash. The Monty Brown POUNCE…PERIOD hits and Mojo nails Hyper Drive. Ryder comes in with the Broski Boot. They nail Hollis with the Hype Ryder to win.

Winners: The Hype Bros in 3:29

Perfectly fine spotlight match for the Hype Bros. I may not be a big fan of theirs but this kept me interested for the time given.

Rich Brennan interviews Bayley and Carmella. Bayley says the only thing harder than winning the belt is keeping it. She mentions the girls she’s beaten so far, Sasha, Alexa, Nia and Eva. She expects Carmella to be tough but she’s not ready to let go of the belt. Carmella admits this may be her only shot at the title. She is loyal to Bayley but when the title is up for grabs, may the best woman win.

Alexa Bliss w/ Blake and Murphy vs. Cameron

It’s interesting that this is heel vs. heel. This came about because Cameron tossed Alexa out from the battle royal a few weeks back. They lock up and Cameron quickly takes her over, choosing to pose after. Alexa does it back and taunts too. We get a clean break before Cameron nails her and drives her knee into Alexa’s head. She hits double knees to the back as well. The crowd seems to be against her, giving Alexa the sympathy. Cameron hits a strange running knee that ends with her in a split. Alexa takes a powder and snaps Cameron’s head off the top rope. Yup, the crowd is behind her. She slams Cameron’s face into the mat and just stomps on her head. She high fives her boys, opening the door for Cameron to strike back. She kicks away at Alexa in the corne and nails a splash. Alexa pulls her into a small package for two. When they get up, Cameron kicks her and nails a variation of John Morrison’s Moonlight Drive for another near fall. Alexa starts slamming her by the hair and then connects on her backlfip knee drop. She’s not done, going up top for the Sparkle Splash.

Winner: Alexa Bliss in 4:13

Honestly, better than I expected, but still not very good. Cameron has improved a bit, while Alexa continues to do well in this heel role. *

Backstage promo from Enzo and Cass time. Cass reminds Dash and Dawson that they aren’t done with them. American Alpha interrupt, saying they won’t go back to back for NXT Tag Team of the Year. Jordan says 2016 is an Olympic year and Gable says “you know what that means”. They go through some pretty fun back and forth. Gable and Jordan say they’re going back to back next week against Dash and Dawson after beating BAMF. He goes for the “Ready, Willing, Gable” punchline but the other three men walk away.

Elias Sampson vs. Jesse Sorensen

Jesse gets a fair amount of job duty in NXT. Corey Graves just rags on Sampson throughout the entire match. Sampson aggressively goes after Jesse in the corner with chokes, knees and stomps. He nails a running elbow as “drift away” chants start. He kicks at the arm and drops knees on Jesse. Jumping elbow by Sampson. He drills Sorensen with a high running knee and tells the fans to be quiet.  Neckbreaker connects for the 1-2-3.

Winner: Elias Sampson in 2:36

Well, another match goes by and I’ve yet to be impressed by Elias Sampson.

A recap airs of the Finn Balor/Apollo Crews match from last week. Apollo gets interviewed and is asked if he regrets asking for the match. He says he doesn’t because he now knows exactly what he needs to do to become the best. Actions speak louder than words and next time we see him in the ring, we’ll see a new Apollo Crews.

NXT Women’s Championship: Bayley (c) vs. Carmella

The crowd is really behind Bayley, though Carmella isn’t getting booed. A handshake and hug comes before any action. Collar and elbow tie up leads to a Bayley headlock. Carmella switches it but Bayley escapes into a wrist lock. Carmella gets out with a go behind, but Bayley takes her to the mat with another headlock. Carmella sends her into the corner but Bayley hits an elbow and comes off the second rope with an armdrag. Bayley misses a splash in the corner, Carmella hits an atomic drop and they both whiff on stereo dropkicks. They low five before going back it. Bayley gets a school girl for two but stays on Carmella. Corner whip and clothesline followed by a snapmare. Bayley comes off the ropes with another clothesline and then a knee drop for two before a commercial. By the way, the new Edge and Christian show looks great. Returning, Bayley is focusing on Carmella’s arm.  Carmella gets two on a school girls this time and flips Bayley over. Lou Thez Press hits and Carmella takes her to the corner where she gets a rana in. She charges but Bayley pops up with a clothesline. She goes after Carmella but gets pulled into a small package for two. Bayley comes back with a shoulder thrust and back elbows in the corner. She puts Carmella on the second rope and comes out with a spinning powerslam for a near fall. Bayley goes up top and Carmella hits her, causing her to take a nasty spill outside. The challenger looks concerned about her friend but builds up steam and takes her out with a tope. No the crowd is starting to get into her. She slides inside and looks for the dive again and surprisingly, it works. This time she rolls Bayley in and covers her for three close near falls. Bayley sits in the corner and Carmella screams HOW YOU DOING! She hits a single bronco buster, followed by the flatliner and into her submission. Bayley counters into a rollup for two. Carmella gets her own rollup for two and Bayley gets another for two. Carmella then gets one more before Bayley finally brings her over and holds her down for three.

Winner and Still NXT Women’s Champion: Bayley in 10:32

That may have been my favorite Bayley title defense that wasn’t against Sasha Banks. Carmella showed that she has improved greatly, they played into their friendship well and gave you the illusion that Carmella might actually win. ***

The two embrace in the ring and Carmella leaves Bayley to celebrate alone. Eva Marie and Nia Jax show up to attack Carmella. Bayley makes the save, which Eva of course, sells like shit. They take her out and bring Carmella to the ring. Nia comes off the ropes with some leg drops. Eva starts getting kicks in, which look putrid. Asuka comes out to a massive pop. Eva hides behind Nia. Asuka stands across from her and gets close, but Eva tells Nia to leave, which they do. When Asuka is left alone with Bayley she brushes off the Women’s Title as the crowd chants “Yes”. Looks like we’re getting Asuka vs. Bayley.

Samoa Joe speaks, saying that Zayn can’t hide in a triple threat next week. It’s inevitable that he will be the next NXT Champion.
