411’s WWE NXT Report 4.1.15

April 1, 2015 | Posted by Kevin Pantoja

Happy April Fool’s Day. In all seriousness, tonight’s big match pits Tyler Breeze against Hideo Itami in a 2 out of 3 falls match.

Sami Zayn is out to open NXT this week in street clothes. He talks about his time in Abu Dabi and how he couldn’t fully enjoy it because Kevin Owens was on his mind. Owens is a different person than he knew and he knows what he’s dealing with now. He’s going to use his rematch clause to kick Kevin Owens’ ass. Simple, to the point and effective.

Tonight we will see the Lucha Dragons vs. Blake and Murphy as well as Bayley vs. Emma

Rhyno vs. Jobber

Rhyno attacks and hits a belly to belly suplex. A Gore hits and this is Baron Corbin quick.

Winner: Rhyno in 0:26

Two move squash. Can’t rate this. NO RATING

After the match, Rhyno has a microphone and says that he came to NXT to make a statement and for the NXT Championship.

Another Dana Brooke vignette airs. She’s debuting in two weeks.

A recap of last week’s NXT Title match is shown before we go to Kevin Owens after the match. He says that he won and that’s all that matters.

Bayley vs. Emma

Thanks to her new attitude, Emma still dances but seems to not care and her body language seems to be mocking herself. The girls talk early on and Emma seems to be joking a bit and isn’t taking Bayley seriously. They exchange lock ups before Bayley goes behind Emma. Their next exchange ends when Bayley hits a shoulder block. Bayley gets two on a rollup but runs into a clothesline. Emma throws her into the corner and seems to be trash talking a bit. Well, it’s less trash talk and more motivational speaking which is interesting. Bayley fires up, sending Emma into the corner multiple times. She misses a corner splash and is put in the Emma Lock. Emmamite sandwich hits and she goes for a pin while dancing, allowing Bayley to counter and score the three.

Winner: Bayley in 4:11

Strange match. I give it points for telling a story, but it seemed like Emma isn’t sure what she’s supposed to do. She’s yelling at one spot and then joking around the next while dancing. **

They seem okay after the match, but Emma puts a pretty angry face behind Bayley’s back.

Devin Taylor interviews Becky Lynch, who requested the interview time. Becky is pissed that everyone gets singles title shots except for her. She has a good point. Even Alexa Bliss did.

Non-Title Match: NXT Tag Team Champions Blake and Murphy vs. The Lucha Dragons

Two nights ago, the Lucha Dragons had a very impressive Raw debut. Kalisto starts with Murphy and sends him outside. Blake runs in and is taken out as well. Kalisto holds the ropes open so Sin Cara can hit a suicide dive on him. Back inside and Kalisto is now knocked outside. He’s brought in and worked over with some rest holds. It’s a prolonged one, which surprises me as their previous matches haven’t really been slow. Kalisto fights out and gets two on a creative rollup. Murphy gets the tag and drops double knees on Kalisto. Kalisto rolls out of harm’s way and tags Sin Cara who comes in pretty warm. He his a springboard crossbody and moonsault for two. Cara connects on a big kick and goes up top. Blake knocks him off but he rolls through to safety. Blake gets in a cheap shot behind the referee’s back before they hit their running suplex/frog splash combo to win.

Winners: NXT Tag Team Champions Blake and Murphy in 6:13

Solid tag match. About as good as their match at TakeOver Rival, but with less botches. None actually. Crisp match that was enjoyable. **1/4

Devin Taylor interviews Sami Zayn, and he’s the only person who is nice to her. Rhyno interrupts and says he doesn’t care about personal issues because the line for a shot starts behind him.

A video package airs for Solomon Crowe. I’ll admit, I kind of forgot about him in recent weeks. They show his attack on CJ Parker, who asked for his release yesterday.

Jason Jordan vs. Tye Dillinger

This is strange. I get that they have a story of Jason Jordan walking out on him but they haven’t had enough TV time for people to get invested in this. Commentary tries to bill this as a grudge match. They do some early work with Jordan showing off that he’s more powerful. He gets in some amateur wrestling slams mixed in with elbows and splashes. Jordan moves to a chinlock and the crowd is not into this at all. Tye gets two on a school boy before hitting a 90’s inverted atomic drop. Jordan hits a sweet looking suplex to win.

Winner: Jason Jordan in 3:01

Technically, this wasn’t bad but it had ZERO heat. That hurt it overall. *1/2

A video package airs recapping the feud between Hideo Itami and Tyler Breeze.

2 Out of 3 Falls: Hideo Itami vs. Tyler Breeze

As they work some lockups, “Breeze is ratchet”, “No he’s not” is the dueling chant we get. Breeze gets in shoulder thrusts in the corner and hits a splash. He shouts “YOU’LL NEVER BEAT ME” and runs in with a forearm, but his next attempt is thwarted by a shot. Hideo follows with a big running kitchen sink before the hesitation dropkick in the corner. He nails the running dropkick finisher to pick up the first fall in 2:17. As the second fall starts, Breeze is selling the effects of the series of kicks he took very well. Hideo keeps getting held back by the referee to allows Tyler some time, but he comes out with the Beauty Shot to even things up at 3:40. Playing possum works. Between that and the ring post figure four he did at Rival, I’d say he’s been watching Bret Hart on the WWE Network. Back from commercial and Tyler is in control. Breeze goes to a gorgeous headlock and then tries quick pins, which I like. Hideo fights out and dodges a dropkick. He reels off some clotheslines and a leg sweep. Corner knee from Itami before his tornado DDT on the ropes. He leaps from the top and misses but still connects on a kick for two. Breeze uses an inside cradle for two before they move to a series of pin attempts. Itami hits a big boot and school boys him for two. Itami tries a roaring elbow but is caught with a supermodel kick for a very close near fall. Both guys are down, allowing Corey Graves to tell us that if Breeze wins, he claims he will annex Japan from Cuteville. Breeze gets in kicks but Itami fires up and fires away with multiple kicks. He misses the hesitation dropkick and Tyler misses the Beauty Shot. Itami kicks him in the gut and connects with the dropkick now. He sends Tyler off the ropes for the finishing dropkick but Tyler hits the Beauty Shot and wins.

Winner: Tyler Breeze in 11:21

Really solid stuff here. The first two falls were too short to be really any good, but they made sense. Breeze playing possum was great and the final fall featured a ton of kicks and near falls, which were executed well. The surprising result is welcome. ***1/4
