411’s WWE NXT Report 9.21.16

September 21, 2016 | Posted by Kevin Pantoja

This week’s episode starts with a video package of Samoa Joe’s promo last week and highlights of what he did to become NXT Champion. It ends with the rematch being setup for Joe vs. Nakamura and then Joe’s attack that caused Nakamura to be taken out on a stretcher.

Samoa Joe makes his way out to the ring with a paper in his hand. Joe thinks it’s fitting to address the altercation with Shinsuke Nakamura. Joe somehow stole a copy of Nakamura’s medical report. He reads it and it says that Shinsuke has several contusions on his lower lumbar, an injured elbow, and separations of the clavicle and shoulder. The injuries won’t need surgery, but he’ll have to rest for 6-12 weeks. He calls out Regal because he will not wait six or twelve weeks. Either give him Nakamura or strip Nakamura of the title. William Regal comes to the stage. Regal says that he hasn’t been in touch with Nakamura, because Nakamura isn’t a normal guy. He will take care of the NXT Title problem though. Joe doesn’t like that and walks towards Regal, getting in his face. He gives Regal one week to make a choice or the entire roster will end up like Shinsuke.

Highlights of Kota Ibushi vs. Cedric Alexander are shown because tonight, Alexander makes his NXT debut! He gets interviewed about debuting against Andrade Almas. Cedrix says that he scratched and clawed for seven years on the indies and got told often that he would fail. Tonight is the start of his journey. He’s going to prove to Andrade that he’s as good as he knows he is.

Liv Morgan is interviewed about her death wish when she called out Asuka. Liv says that she didn’t come to NXT to bow down to Asuka or any other chick. The division hasn’t been cleared because she’s standing here. Asuka shows up and says “you think you’re ready? Let’s find out.”

Austin Aries vs. Oney Lorcan

“Oney” chants. They lock up and go to the corner. Aries takes him down and gets one before working a headlock. They break in the corner and Lorcan slaps the shit out of Aries. Headlock from Oney now. Aries tries to get free but Oney keeps it on, even when Aries goes to the apron. Aries sends him off the ropes and Lorcan tackles him down back into a headlock. Aries finally breaks it and slaps Lorcan, so Lorcan responds with one of his own. He does the headlock again, so Aries counters with a back suplex that sends him over and onto the apron. After a break, Aries is in control and hits an elbow in the corner. Double stomp and leaping elbow to the back get two. Aries lays in some forearms and elbows in the corner before following with an overhand chop. Oney makes a weird sound before firing up with uppercuts, strikes and chops. Oney’s run gets stopped when Aries avoids him in the corner and he goes over and out. Aries follows with a leaping chop. He rolls him inside and comes off the top but jumps into an uppercut. Lorcan nails a running uppercut for a close near fall. Aries breaks Oney’s grip but runs into an elbow. Lorcan tries a blockuster but misses. Aries hits the roaring elbow and a corner dropkick. A front suplex into a knee leads to the Last Chancery.

Winner: Austin Aries in 6:31

Exactly what it needed to be. Aries gets a solid TV win and Lorcan looked like a physical threat, who got in just the right amount of hope spots. **1/2

Aries gets on the microphone and says that Hideo puts people to sleep, but he makes them tap. He puts the rumors of him being scared of Hideo to bed. He was off for a few weeks because he has important things to do. Aries says that he’s here tonight but he’s a man’s man and he knows Hideo won’t show up if he calls him out. He calls him a coward, so Hideo’s music plays. Itami walks to the ring but once he gets inside, Aries urns and leaves. He does a victory run around the ring and up the ramp.

A short vignette airs for Dan Matha, a 6’7, 300 pound beast who makes his debut in two weeks!

Footage from the CWC Finals airs of #DIY getting interviewed. They respect the 32 guys who competed in the CWC. The Revival show up and sarcastically applaud them, so DIY charge after them. The four men brawl by a car until security breaks it up.

Aliyah vs. Billie Kay

Aliyah starts hot and takes her down quickly. She charges into the corner with a shoulder block and works a strange left arm submission on the apron. She knees her and comes off the middle rope with a leg drop for two. Billie comes back with a discus forearm and stomps a mudhole in Aliyah. She pulls her out for a near fall. Billie hoists her up for an arm trap variation of a torture rack. Aliyah fights out but gets tossed into the top turnbuckle. Billie tries the bit boot but Aliyah dodges and gets in some shots. She hits a flipping neckbreaker type move for two before running into the big boot that ends it.

Winner: Billie Kay in 3:13

Fine squash match. Billie looked good and Aliyah got some stuff in. Again, just what it needed to be.

Another Sanity vignette airs.

Mandy Rose gets interviewed about things she’s said about Ember Moon recently. She says that Ember doesn’t have what it takes. She claims that Ember looks like a cross between something that I missed and the Hunger Games. Mandy is what an NXT Superstar should look like in her mind.

Next wee, Asuka gets to murder Liv Morgan.

Andrade “Cien” Almas vs. Cedric Alexander

The crowd is hot for Cedric. They shake hands and lock up. They go through an exchange that sees a headlock and headscissors before breaking off. Cedric nearly hits a big kick but Almas avoids it, Alexander still takes him over, Cien ends up hitting a springboard rana. They do a standoff that honestly was too fast for me to write out each thing. I apologize. Alexander gets free of a wristlock and puts on his own. Almas flips out and goes back to his own. Alexander flips out and sends Almas to the ropes but Almas latches on. He sends Alexander to the outside and dropkicks him, followed by a springboard corkscrew splash. Returning from break, Almas works a headlock. Alexander backs him to the corner and hits a jawbreaker to break it. Big kicks from Alexander and he starts laying in the clotheslines. He does a handspring kick when Almas sends him off the ropes and it sends Almas outside. Alexander sees an opening and nails a gorgeous tope con hilo. Alexander hits a springboard clothesline inside for two. Almas elbows Alexander to break a grip and rolls him up into a powerbomb for two. They trade blows in the middle of the ring until Almas tries a wheelbarrow move. Alexander places him up top from that position. Almas elbows him and sends him to the mat. He goes for a moonsault but Alexander moves out of the way, only for Almas to land on his feet and go right into another moonsault for two. Almas drives shots into Alexander in the corner and calls for the double knees. Alexander is up and nails the Lumbar Check for the win.

Winner: Cedric Alexander in 8:00

Very competitive match. It was fast paced, fun and showcased both men well. It seems like they’re going to eventually turn Almas heel and Alexander getting the win in his NXT debut was just right. ***1/4

After the match, they shook hands and then Almas pulled him into a hug.
